"Life is a precious gift; it sometimes takes a lifetime to learn how to appreciate it," says author James Benedict. With his book, containing the lessons he has learned from making "Choices Through the Sea of Life" (published by Xlibris), he shows readers how faith can guide them to appreciate that precious gift, conveying this message on to the youth of today, such as - and especially - his very own grandchildren.

"Choices through the Sea of Life" is a story about a young man who grew up in New England during the 1950s and wrestled with the core values to navigate through the labyrinth of life. From MUG (midshipmen under guidance) in a merchant marine academy to monk in a Benedictine Monastery, life became a struggle to sort out his values in order to make thoughtful choices to determine his path.

"No matter which path in life we choose, our faith is the beginning foundation to build and nurture a life of meaning," Benedict says. "We all have choices to make in life and it is our faith and faith alone that gives us the right direction but we have to sort out the answers ourselves with our faith.

This book is dedicated to the author's Benedictine brothers and sisters who continually seek and serve God and who have influenced his life. "Choices Through the Sea of Life" is a book for all ages for it shows how everyone experiences the various nuances of life, but as the author says, "how we navigate through it all can be mind boggling and faith is the anchor and path for a meaningful life."
