As a kick-off to Literary Feast 2014, the Broward Public Library Foundation will hold its annual LitLUNCH! event today, February 21, 2014 beginning at 11:30 a.m. at the Pier Top Lounge at the Hyatt Regency Pier Sixty-Six (2301 S.E. 17 th Street, Fort Lauderdale). This year, LitLUNCH! features Jen Lancaster, the hilariously funny author of nine bestsellers, the latest of which is The Tao of Martha: My Year of LIVING, or Why I'll Never Be Able to Get All That Glitter Off the Dog.

A former associate vice president at a big-city technology company, Jen had a pack of assistants to "fetch her vanilla lattes on demand," but that party ended soon after 9/11. A website she started to share her humorous job search quickly became a hit but not before she had to move out of her snazzy Bucktown loft. Lancaster realized that writing was her true calling, closed down her unemployment website and started penning Bitter Is the New Black. The book was quickly picked up and the rest is history. Bright Lights, Big Ass; Such a Pretty Fat; Pretty in Plaid; My Fair Lazy; If You Were Here; Jeneration X; Here I Go Again and the Tao of Martha followed like clockwork.

Pearl-loving, zucchini-craving, glitter-adorning Jen Lancaster is quite possibly one of the funniest authors you'll ever run across. The Boston Herald calls her "scathingly witty." Kirkus Review says, "Carrie Bradshaw meets Barbara Ehrenreich." And Redbook says, "You'll revel in the lessons she gleans from her travails." The Tao of Martha details the year she spent trying to emulate Martha Stewart and doesn't disappoint on the funny front one bit. It's a thoroughly laughable read you won't want to put down until it's finished.

LitLUNCH! 2014 honorary chair is Gale Butler from AutoNation. Laurie Menekou of Conceptual Communications and Stacy Ostrau from the Sun-Sentinel are the event's co-chairs. The host committee includes Jennifer O'Flannery Anderson, Katie Adler, Molly Adler, Jill Barton, Meredith Clements, Sharon McCaslin, Jennifer Nayak, Marcia Quallo-Lange, Lindsay Raphael, Alexia C. Rineheart, Ashley Sawyer Smith, Tiffany Tobol, Kelly Alvarez Vitale and Alison Wiener.

Tickets to LitLUNCH! are $65 and proceeds support children's and adult literacy programs and services funded by the Broward Public Library Foundation. For additional information about LitLUNCH!, please contact Trudy Reilly at 954.357.7384.
