ST. ALBANS, W. Va.

Drawing from ancient history, author Brett Armstrong constructed a story about the persecution one man faces in the name of his faith. His new historical novel, "Destitutio Quod Remissio" (published by CrossBooks), tells the story of a Roman senator whose Christianity is discovered and the subsequent trials he endures.

"There have always been, and currently are, Christians suffering terrible persecutions across the globe and yet they still remain faithful," Armstrong says. "This story is about the kind of zeal and perseverance to endure suffering, the faith that would allow a man's heart to find forgiveness and compassion towards those who have done unspeakable evil to him."

Senator Marcus Servius is a well-regarded politician in ancient Rome. His life is flipped upside-down, though, when he is discovered to be a Christian. He loses his prestige, his wealth and even his wife. He struggles each day to find a new purpose to his life. Overcoming the longing to exact his own justice and to trust God's hand on his life he ultimately affects the fate of all Rome's Christians.

"At the core of the novel is unwavering faith that produces a heart of forgiveness and an indomitable perseverance in the face of seemingly impossible opposition," Armstrong says.
