On November 30, notable authors will sell books in bookstores all over Seattle. Award winning poet, author, and filmmaker Sherman Alexie's brilliant idea of having authors work as volunteers that day at independent bookstores has taken hold in our community.

One local tech startup BooksILove is helping the effort with a campaign that coincides with the launch of their new mobile book recommendation app. "If a customer goes into a participating bookstore and shows a recommendation they've received from a friend via the BooksILove iPhone app, they receive $1 dollar off any book," according to CEO Elizabeth Dimarco.

A slew of local bookstores have signed up, including University Bookstore, Third Place Books, Seattle Mystery Bookstore, and Queen Ann Book Company with more to follow. "This is a great way to bridge the gap between the online book community and your neighborhood store, and the app is fun," Pam Cady, Manager, University Bookstore

"We're excited to support this great event," says Dimarco. "And we'll carry the campaign beyond Small Business Saturday - to incentivize our users to make return visits to their hometown store."

BooksILove is a Kirkland-based startup founded by local entrepreneurs Elizabeth Dimarco and Kathy Weber. In addition to their local Seattle roots, they have partnered with leading local Multi-screen agency Ratio to help design and build their iOS7 app now available for the iPhone 4s and 5 series. "We are truly proud to have the opportunity to work with the passionate team at BooksILove," said Russ Whitman, Chief Strategy Officer at Ratio. "Seattle has spawned so many successful technology companies and we believe that BooksILove has a chance to be added to that list."
