LONDON, July 6, 2015 /PRNewswire/

Ten per cent of all revenues received from Storytime magazine in the month of July will be donated to Book Trust, to support their vital work in improving literacy for children and young people.

Britain's largest reading charity Book Trust has announced a partnership with Storytime, Britain's only story magazine for children, in support of Children's Book Week.

Book Trust has been running Children's Book Week in the UK for over 80 years. This year it runs from 6 to 12 July, and aims to share the joy of books with children and young people.

In support of this, for the month of July, Storytime magazine will donate ten per cent of all revenues received to Book Trust to assist with their work enabling parents and carers to read regularly to their children, and inspiring children to read for pleasure.

Storytime magazine contains fairy tales, poems, myths, puzzles, activities, and much more -it's designed to get parents and children spending quality time reading together. It is particularly appealing to reluctant readers who may not pick up a book, but will read a magazine.

Leslie Coathup, publisher of Storytime said: "We're immensely proud to be partnering with Book Trust in Children's Book Week. We are great admirers of their work in closing the literacy gap for children. Reading stories to children at an early age is crucial to the development of reading, writing, vocabulary and literacy, and ultimately children doing better in school and in life - but it's also great fun, and builds a stronger relationship between parent and child.

As a children's story magazine that parents can join in with too, Storytime is a completely new and unique way of getting children interested in stories. It gives an accessible way for parents and children to enjoy stories together, which is ultimately what Children's Book Week is all about."

Gemma Malley, Director of Communications for Book Trust, said:

"We are delighted that Storytime is supportingBook Trust in our mission to encourage parents to read every day with their children and promote a love of reading in the home. We know that children who are read to regularly do better at school, but we also know families who read for pleasure have happier, more confident children."

Notes to Editors

Book Trust is the largest reading charity in the UK. We work to inspire a love of reading in children because we know that reading can transform lives. We give out over 2 million carefully chosen books to children throughout the UK; every parent receives a Book Trust book in the baby's first six months. Our books, guidance and resources are delivered via health, library, schools and early years practitioners, and are supported with advice and resources to encourage the reading habit. Reading for pleasure has a dramatic impact on educational outcomes and well-being and social mobility, and is also a huge pleasure in itself. We are committed to starting children on their reading journey and supporting them throughout. http://www.booktrust.org.uk

Storytime is a magazine produced and self-funded by a small independent publishing company called Luma Works. In less than a year we have become one of the biggest children's subscription titles in the country. Each issue is packed with traditional tales, so it's in line with the curriculum, and the short story format means that parents and children can read it in bite-sized chunks. Ofsted recommends that schools encourage pupils to read more widely for pleasure and develop policies to promote it both at school and at home to close the literacy gap, and Storytime is perfect for this.
