LONDON

After experiencing her first episode of bipolar disorder in 2003, author Fran C. Crowe began to produce art expressing the ramifications of mental illness. She now presents these works of art in her new book "A Higher Self" (published by AuthorHouse UK).

Featuring pastel, acrylic and watercolor art, "A Higher Self" portrays Crowe's outpouring of creativity she felt was guided by a higher power. She felt like her art was propelled by more than a conscious choice; it was work that would contribute to a greater good.

"Today's society is still developing its tolerance of mental illness," Crowe says. "I hope these pictures will demonstrate a mind that, although now and again can be upset by bipolar episodes, can still produce something beautiful for people to enjoy."

Within "A Higher Self," Crowe brings together art and narrative with the hope of bringing about greater awareness of mental illness and its many effects on the lives of everyday people.
