Barbara Brayton's new children's book, "The Munkins" (published by AuthorHouse), entertains readers with a young family of chipmunks, who when playing hide and seek, see something that changes their lives forever.

"The Munkins" follows the life of two Munkin chipmunks, Chris and Dee, as they encounter humans in the forest for the first time. As they play hide-and-seek in the forest, they come across humans who are cutting down trees and taking them away on huge, loud yellow machines. At the Munkinville Town Hall meeting, everyone agrees to relocate their town deeper into the forest to save their homes and their winter supply of acorns they worked so hard to gather.

Barbara Brayton has lived in Adirondacks all of her life. She draws her inspiration from the beauty of its wildlife and takes a strong stand on preserving wildlife for future generations.

An excerpt from "The Munkins":

"Deep in the forest, in the little town of Munkinville, a family of chipmunks lived in a large old oak tree. The beautiful tree seemed to reach up to the sky and was the tallest in the forest. Its branches grew out in every direction and the sunlight danced through the tiny leaf buds all the way down to the ground."

"Mr. and Mrs. Munkin raised two children in this big old tree, a son, Chris, and a daughter, Dee. They loved their home, and because their tree was the largest in the forest, all of their friends liked to come over and play. Grampa and Gramma Munkin lived in the next tree, and Grampa and Gramma Greenwood lived in the large old walnut tree down the path."
