NEW YORK

Yvonne Broady has written freelance restaurant reviews, and written and produced several cable television shows. Her first novel, "Brave in a New World," offers readers a window into this emerging author's very personal story.

Broady shares her journey through the grief process after the loss of her husband, Clarence Cortez Loftin III on January 24, 2009. While Clarence's anguish and pain from his battle with pancreatic cancer were over, Broady's was only beginning.

"The prospect of waking up every day and being faced with the same reality was very exhausting to me. I just wanted this to be over. At night, I would go to bed and pull the covers up over my head and hope that I would sleep for several hours, only to be met with the same reality of another day without Chuck," Broady said.

"Brave in a New World" serves as a guide and a source of inspiration and hope for others who are grieving the loss of a spouse. Broady beautifully helps readers see that there can be a life filled with promise, reassurance and hope in the wake of personal loss.

"This book is about being brave and courageous in a brand-new world. This is not meant to be a definitive guide on how to grieve, but I hope my experience will assist those who are grieving the loss of a spouse by illustrating what can be expected as one embarks on a grieving journey," Broady said. "After years of marriage, no matter how few or how many, it is up to the grieving spouse to re-create a life for herself or himself. I hope this book helps to make that task easier."
