"Naked Leadership" is a term coined by author Donald F. Hastings, Chairman Emeritus, The Lincoln Electric Company, the world's largest manufacturer of arc welding equipment and consumables. In his new business memoir, "Behind the Mask" (published by Xlibris) Hastings proves that combining Naked Leadership principles with creative internal structures in order to make things, not deals, can be highly profitable in the US. As a result, the Ohio-based corporation does not need to consider moving their operations back to the States - they never left.

Hastings personifies Naked Leadership tenets, what he calls "managing from inside a fish bowl," when, as CEO of the 120-year-old heavy manufacturing company, he ignites its 3000 plus US employees to heroic efforts, wrangling Lincoln back from the brink of financial ruin, transforming near disaster into record sales and profits, paying their legendary multi-million dollar bonus and avoiding any US layoffs. The turnaround is one wild ride.

"Naked Leadership saved Lincoln," Hastings said, "and I believe it can save America. To become a manufacturing superpower once again, we need complete transparency, firm commitment and inspired action, beginning with our leaders in Washington, D.C. We need to reawaken the sleeping giant: American Ingenuity fueled by American Spirit. As we proved at Lincoln, when we band together, we are unstoppable."

About the Author
Donald F. Hastings, Chairman Emeritus of The Lincoln Electric Company, was dubbed the "Silver-Tongued Mesmerist" by his customers. Blessed (or cursed) with extraordinary creativity and exceptional daring, he scrambled his way from sales trainee to CEO and chairman of the board. As CEO, his ingenuity, audacity and bold ideas ignited the hundred-year-old company to rise from the ashes, converting catastrophe into the Miracle on St. Clair.

Leslie Anne Hastings, a graduate of Stanford University and the pen Behind the Mask, writes of her father's exploits with a wry wit. "If James Bond had infiltrated the manufacturing world, this would be his story.
