According to the American Psychological Association, 48 percent of marriages break up before the 20-year mark. When there are children involved, it is even more important to ease the conflict and keep the lines of communication open.

Author Kerry McGill realized this first hand and found the most challenging task to be communicating to his young daughter his inner most feelings following his divorce of a 17-year marriage.

"I had to find a way to tell her how I felt," McGill said. "I wanted her to know that she was just as special and wonderful and important and perfect now, after the divorce, as she was before."

In his new children's book, "Bear's Flower," it started out as a poem written just for his daughter, Ireland, then ended up turning into something much bigger.

McGill said, "It took on a life of its own and became a book that will hopefully allow others the opportunity to express how they feel."

Stunning illustrations and rhythmic prose successfully tell the story of a bear taking care of a beautiful flower throughout the harshest conditions of life and coming out unscathed. "Bear's Flower" will comfort parent and child alike as they confront the forces of life like divorce, separation or death.
