Sashi and Buddy are back for another endearing adventure in the third installment of the educational and entertaining Sashi series that teaches children how Sheltie Rescue gives homeless Shelties a second chance at a happy life. A fan favorite among children, parents, teachers and rescue advocates, Sashi, the Scared Little Sheltie and Sashi Adopts a Brother have gone on to win Mom's Choice Awards, a Moonbeam Children's Award, and a Purple Dragonfly Book Award, and are both Story Monster Approved. Now, in author Linda Greiner's third Mom's Choice Awards gold-winning book, Sashi and the Puppy Mill Girl chronicles the true story of Cinnamon, a young Sheltie foster rescued from a puppy mill.

Accompanied once again by illustrations brought to life by Morgan Spicer, Sashi and the Puppy Mill Girl promotes a loving and sympathetic attitude toward the canine victims of puppy mills. "Greiner and Spicer present that dark place with just the right amount of tension, not dwelling on it but not shying away from the reasons Cinnamon has trouble trusting people," says Kirkus Reviews. While Sashi's friendship with Cinnamon gently exposes the harsh conditions of puppy mills, it also serves as an example of the strength and love that new owners have the opportunity to demonstrate to their four-legged family members.

The Sashi books are based on Greiner's personal experience adopting the real-life energetic Sashi and later, Sashi's brother, Buddy, through Shetland Sheepdog Placement Services of New Jersey (SSPSNJ). Thirteen years later, she continues to foster Shelties that provide inspiration for her books.

Greiner believes children are never too young to start learning about the proper care of an animal. She emphasizes the necessity of patience when working with rescued animals as they attempt to recover from their past and timidly join in activities and bonding opportunities. Children must learn to be careful and extra gentle - a valuable lesson for any young child interacting with pets.

The Sashi series teaches children and adults alike about the importance of compassion for others who have been through more than a few rough patches. Showing children that, like them, each pet is its own being with its own distinct personality, can help foster a sense of acceptance of others. Sashi and her Sheltie pals encourage kids to welcome differences and to have a heart for people - and pets - in need.

"Dogs do not care how you look, how much you earn, how much you own or what your title is at work," says Greiner. "They sense your mood immediately and want to make things better if you've had a hard day. Their eyes shine with love. Love them back, show them kindness and they will give you more than you can imagine. It's been said many times in many variations, 'My goal in life is to be as good a person as my dog already thinks I am.'"

Greiner is committed to helping other Shelties find their forever homes and donates a portion of the sales proceeds from the Sashi series to SSPSNJ.
