Atheists passionately denying the existence of God inspired author Ron Fry to weave an adventurous tale that not only entertains, but also educates and evangelize children. "The Good King," a brightly illustrated children's picture book is Fry's first foray into the publishing world. This is the first of many books to come that uses a creative a storyline to deliver valuable lessons on faith.

Drawing inspiration from biblical events, "The Good King" is set days before the Great Flood of Noah. It follows the story of Captain Patch, a scoundrel pirate, and two orphan children, Flip and Flop, who search the world for a fair and just king. Part Dr. Seuss, part Bullwinkle & Rocky, and part Lord of the Rings, the colorful storybook is written for readers as young as four-year olds. The art is fantastic and captivating for such readers.

However, while these characters may catch young readers, the tale is also embedded with underlying themes such as global politics and leadership that will make it beneficial for adults as well. The plot and the storyline are designed not only to be fun for children, but also to be entertaining for the grown-ups who will read it to them. It is a multi-faceted allegory; shallow enough for a toddler, but deep enough for a college professor.

With its biblical setting and creative and playful presentation of its message, "The Good King" is a delightful tale that appeals to readers from almost all ages and all walks of life. It is highly relevant as it addresses people's need for a strong, fair and just global leader and the faith in finding one. Fry wittingly says of his book: "There are no other books like it...this is a book really written for grown-ups. I just disguised it as a kids' book."
