The physical labor, emotional demands, and work shifts are just a few of the job expectations that make nursing a stressful profession. As a nurse, Amie Walker is well aware of the challenges that these medical professionals face on a daily basis. Her book, "Journey to the Center of the Heart" (published by Xlibris), is her way of helping her fellow nurses reconnect to the core of their profession and stay motivated throughout their journey in this noble field.

Walker's professional experience has exposed her to the daily grind and pressures that nurses must endure on the job. Because of this, she recognized the need for nurses to have a safe and healthy channel for their thoughts and issues. "Journey to the Center of the Heart" is a self-care tool that encourages readers to describe their experiences and reflect upon them. It is designed to preserve the physical, mental, spiritual, and emotional wellbeing of nurses. It includes resources useful for leading nurses into a more holistic way of life and nursing practice - something which will ultimately impact the healthcare field as a whole.

"I want nurses from all avenues of life and experience to understand that they are not alone in the issues they are facing," Walker says. "Our profession requires us to be so strong and resilient, something our patients can count on, we don't always like to share some of our tougher moments - so they get bottled up, and sometimes manifest in unhealthy ways. I want nurses to have a safe spot for addressing these things."
