Alec Merrill Launches New Historical Fiction Series

Alec Merrill weaves a tale of adventure that shows how attitude and perseverance can overcome most obstacles in life in his well-crafted new historical fiction, "Swift" (published by Archway Publishing).

In 1744 England, Jonathan Swift, a young, impressionable 16-year-old scamp who shares a name with the famous author, is made to join the Royal Navy. Within this regimented environment, the lad learns what is necessary to become a valued sailor and becomes a man in the process. His skill, knowledge and determination are tested as his ship joins battle with the French during the first siege of Louisbourg.

Beginning in England near the seaport of Rye, "Swift" chronicles the Royal Navy's transit from England to the West Indies and follows Jonathan Swift's adventures in Louisburg on Cape Breton Island in Nova Scotia, Canada.

"The book will appeal to readers of historical fiction and readers who enjoy a sea story because it encompasses both," Merrill says. "One reader who has already commented on the book stated 'I would re-read the book because I learned more about life on board a Royal Navy vessel during the age of sail than I have ever picked up after reading dozens of other similar works.'"
