MY STORY, MY DANCE: Robert Battle's Journey to Alvin Ailey is the inspiring story of a boy who, despite physical and personal challenges, has a life filled with music, church, and movement - first martial arts, and then, after seeing Alvin Ailey's Revelations, dance. This picture book biography features images brimming with vibrant color and swirling motion, and is illustrated and written by award-winning husband-and-wife team James E. Ransome and Lesa Cline-Ransome. Created for ages 5 - 10, the book will be released on October 27th by Paula Wiseman Books, a division of Simon & Schuster Children's Publishing, just in time for holiday gift-giving.

MY STORY, MY DANCE is a heart-warming tale that is sure to inspire readers of all ages. When Robert was a baby, he was adopted by his loving aunt and uncle, and nurtured by his encouraging cousin. As a young boy wearing leg braces, he never dreamed he'd study at Juilliard, become an acclaimed dancer and choreographer, or lead Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater around the world. But support from his family and teachers paired with his desire and determination made it possible for Robert to excel against the odds.

Today, led by Robert's expansive vision, the Ailey company furthers its celebration of the human spirit and African-American culture through dance. The remarkable Ailey dancers perform at New York City Center from December 2nd - January 3rd, a joyous holiday tradition for families, and then hit the road for a 20-city North American Tour from February 2nd - May 8th. A book-and-performance package is the perfect way for children to experience the splendor of Ailey via the stage and the page. MY STORY, MY DANCE will be available beginning October 27th at the Ailey Boutique (405 W. 55thStreet New York, NY), at Ailey performances, and at www.AileyShop.com.
