AMACHI by Amy L. Clay is Released

What little girl did not, at one point, wish to be a princess? Author Amy L. Clay's granddaughter certainly did want to be one and this has inspired Clay to write a story about a little princess. Her story eventually evolved into the tale of "Amachi" (published by Xlibris), which tells of a girl who is shunned by her community for being different.

"Amachi" is a story of unity that teaches tolerance and love for mankind. A childless couple finds and raises a glowing baby girl who they named Amachi. She is loved by her adoptive parents, but ostracized by everyone else in her village just because she looks different. The children openly teased her and the adults whispered behind her back. Through her faith, strength, and desire to help others, Amachi overcomes her circumstances. Her journey shows that harmony can be achieved by working together towards common goals.

"The state of our children, particularly the disadvantaged has always been a reality in our society," says Clay. "Amachi" addresses current issues in a fairytale format that should appeal to children. It addresses issues such as unacceptance, low self esteem and fragmented families as well as teaches the values of tolerance, unity, hard work and perseverance.

About the Author
Amy L. Clay is a writer, poet and speaker. She was born in West Blockton, Ala. and was primarily raised by a single mother who eventually settled in Chicago, Ill. Upon graduation from the University of Illinois, she worked as an Administrator for the federally funded supplemental food and nutrition program for Women, Infants and Children (W.I.C.). Her love for reading, writing and speaking led her to membership in two Toastmasters' International clubs, one of which she co-founded. In addition to serving as President of both clubs, she has earned many certification awards. As a native of Chicago and an avid traveler (domestic and international), she had many opportunities to observe cultural differences and its effect on our society, especially on children. She believes that "Every experience is an opportunity to learn."
