In "Under Color of Law" (published by iUniverse), author A. Dwight Pettit chronicles his personal history on his crusade for justice, which offers the life of a man devoted to civil rights through his practice of law.

"Having watched my father struggle over the years fighting for his and my constitutional and human rights, I promised him on his death bed that I would tell our story," Pettit says. "I have watched the nation go into a retreat from the promises made post-Civil War and the Civil Rights Movement of the 60s and 70s and I wanted to send a warning to the progressive community of this nation."

Based on his personal experiences, Pettit's narrative provides a context for readers to examine American society, allowing readers to explore issues concerning police brutality, the reneged promise of integration, disadvantaged communities and the economic inequalities therein.

It is my desire that this book will warn the body politic of the dangers inherent therein. It is imperative that we as a nation and people while celebrating our victories and successes are aware of and not retreat from those dangerous pitfalls and dark caverns that still exist. It must be remembered that this is a young nation, where obstacles and entrenchment can easily be resurrected, refortified and put back into law while a nation sleeps in a fog of complacency created by past accomplishments.

Dwight Pettit earned his law degree from Howard University Law School in 1970 and has handled many high-profile criminal and personal injury cases, including a case for his father that received national attention.
