Ursula von Rydingsvard's ONA Now on Display at Barclays Center
Galerie Lelong has announced that Ursula von Rydingsvard's monumental sculpture, Ona, is now installed at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY. A permanent commission in celebration of the Center's one-year anniversary, Ona is 19 ½ feet tall and weighs almost 12,000 pounds.
The sculpture rises to meet the sky beneath the arena's oculus, greeting the public emerging from the Atlantic Avenue - Barclays Center subway station.
Von Rydingsvard describes this public location as democratic, available for all to see, and expresses her hope that the bronze will be touched by passersby, changing the color of the sculpture's surface overtime through these personal interactions.
Ona reflects the changes taking place in Brooklyn, a borough that is now drawing visitors from Manhattan to experience its rich culture and to view the increasing number of public art projects. The energy of the sculpture is tough yet welcoming, like Brooklyn itself, where von Rydingsvard has worked for over thirty years.
