SundayArts Unveils Met Museum of Art's New Galleries for Islamic Art

SundayArts Co-host Philippe de Montebello presents an up-close look at the new installation of the Metropolitan Museum of Art's New Galleries for the Art of the Arab Lands, Turkey, Iran, Central Asia, and Later South Asia, including aninterview with Navida Haidar, curator of Islamic Art at the Met. The 15 galleries - filled with magnificent works of art -- have only just opened to the public.
De Montebello will also spotlight four other very diverse exhibitions currently on view at the Met: "Heroic Africans: Legendary Leaders, Iconic Sculptures"; "Infinite Jest: Caricature and Satire from Leonardo to Levine"; and "Wonder of the Age, Master Painters of India 1100-1900."

The SundayArts primetime special, airing Thursday, November 24 at 9 p.m., ET on THIRTEEN, also features a behind-the-scenes look at the School of American Ballet, the training ground for some of the world's finest ballet dancers, including the dancers of the New York City Ballet. There will be an encore telecast on Sunday, November 27 at 12 noon. (There will be additional airings on THIRTEEN's sister stations, WLIW21 on Monday, November 28 at 10:30 p.m., and NJTV on Sunday, November 24 at 8:30 p.m.)

News correspondent Christina Ha, based at the Museum of the Moving Image looks at "Jim Henson's Fantastic World" there, focusing on some of the films that are screened there as well as other events around town, including;"Childsplay, Fiddlers, Fiddles and Fiddlemaker, in concert with singer Aoife O'Donovan" at the Peter Norton Symphony Space; "6th Annual Romanian Film Festival in New York" at the Walter Reade Theater at Lincoln Center; and Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater (in its inaugural season with Robert Battle as Artistic Director) at New York City Center.
