New Exhibit Traces the History of South Coast Repertory Theatre
South Coast Repertory Theatre
A new exhibition traces the history of South Coast Repertory, Orange County's Tony Award-winning theatre. The display is on view Oct. 12-20 at South Coast Plaza, during the mall's regular business hours.
The display, in the Jewel Court rotunda (by Macy's), includes cut-out characters in costumes from past productions and large color panels that tell the story of SCR through photos and text.
The panels include the "stages" of SCR from a young troupe performing wherever they landed to today's state-of-the-Art Theatre complex. Highlighted are the community leaders whose support was vital to SCR's success, the many honors bestowed over the years, the renowned new play programs, theatre for families, educational training onsite and out in the community, and a look behind the scenes, showing artisans at work. A historical video in the center of the rotunda shows stunning images of outstanding productions and the donors who made it all possible.
South Coast Repertory's milestone 50th season continues through June 2014.
Current and Upcoming Productions: Fast Company by Carla Ching, through Oct. 27; 4000 Miles by Amy Herzog, Oct. 18-Nov. 17; Ivy + Bean, Theatre for Young Audiences, Nov. 8-24; A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens, adapted by Jerry Patch, Nov. 29-Dec. 26.
