NXNE Art Extends Graffiti Alley With 19 New Murals
NXNE Art unveils the artists who will be transforming the Toronto pedestrian experience, revitalizing lost space, and bringing life to alleyways through a series of mural and projection-based urban interventions throughout the city June 16-22, 2014.
NXNE Art will be undertaking an extension of Graffiti Alley between Niagara and Tecumseth streets where a total of 19 new murals will be painted on both sides of the alley. This new extension will feature the work of artists from Toronto and Detroit including: Elicser, Jimmy Chiale, Heidi Barlow, Shaina Kasztelan, Jessica Janda, Rcade, Birdo, Spud, Jon Todd, Ben Davis, Steve Carty, Skam, Cruz1, REN, and many more.
As part of this activation NXNE Art will be hosting a meet and greet with the artists on Saturday, June 21st from 3-5pm in Graffiti Alley. Festival-goers are welcome to see live painting and hang out with the artists of Graffiti Alley.
This project was made possible by the support of StreetARToronto, a program of the City of Toronto, in partnership with the Toronto Police Service, 14 Division and support from Ward 19 Councillor Mike Layton. Launched in 2012, StreetARToronto (StART) is an innovative, public-private partnership designed to develop, support, promote and increase awareness of street art and its role in adding beauty and character to neighborhoods throughout the city. StART's philosophy is based on the belief that when communities find their voices, address shared identities and nurture the talent of artists, we all benefit from a more welcoming visual landscape. StART is an integral part of the City's Graffiti Management Plan.
