The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust announces its summer 2014 schedule for Second Saturday Workshops offering a variety of studio classes including painting in various mediums and cartooning, as well as classes in the Ancient Art of Belly Dance.

Workshops and dance classes take place in the Trust Arts Education Center, 805-807 Liberty Avenue, downtown Pittsburgh Cultural District. These offerings are presented by the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust, through the Trust's Education and Community Engagement division.

Second Saturday Workshops Summer Schedule

Henna Tattoo Workshop
Saturday, July 12, 2014
Time: 11:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
Cost: $75
Instructor Nazma Deriwala will guide participants in learning the art of temporary tattooing using dyes derived from the flowering henna plant. For adults.

Pastel Painting Workshop
Saturday, July 12, 2014
Time: 11:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.
Cost: $40
Instructor Linda Wallen will provide her artistic experience and participants will explore techniques to create bright, brilliant colored drawings with a spontaneous and easy flowing feel, making the most of this flexible medium. For all levels.

Drawing the Clothed Figure Workshop

Time: 11:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.
Cost: $40
Instructor Sonja Sweterlitsch will provide participants with her knowledge and share techniques in this medium that will help improve representational drawing skills by rendering the clothed figure using traditional drawing techniques. For all levels.

Making Comics with Tom Scioli

Cost: $40
Through this workshop, participants will learn the art of making comics from the popular comic book writer and artist Tom Scioli, widely known for his sci-fi epic Gødland, American Barbarian, and Transformers vs. G.I. Joe. For ages 16 and older.

The Ancient Art of Belly Dance Classes

Classes in The Ancient Art of Belly Dance will take place on Thursdays, June through August, from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., at the Trust Arts Education Center, 805-807 Liberty Avenue, located in downtown Pittsburgh's Cultural District.

Classes will be taught by dance instructor Susan Unsuk Goelz, a professional Middle Eastern dance performer and instructor. Ms. Goelz is a certified instructor of Sherena's Hip Curve Belly Dance Program. Goelz's lifelong passion for dancing has provided her with opportunities to study many different styles of dancing, including Egyptian Oriental, Tribal Fusion, American Tribal, Khaleeji, Saidi, and Shaabi. Ms. Goelz also has enjoyed studying Korean traditional fan dance.

The Ancient Art of Belly Dance classes are open to beginners (no dance experienced is required) through seasoned professionals. Each session will provide participants with the opportunity to learn belly dance techniques and drills, including traveling combinations, muscle isolation, and fluid movements. In addition to learning to dance, these techniques and drills will provide a fun form of exercise to burn calories and get in shape. Participants must be age 18 and older.
