Entitled 'Brazil: Night & Day - Photographs by Andrew Prokos' the exhibition will include photographs from Prokos's award-winning series 'Niemeyer's Brasilia'. Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Carlo A. Scissura announced that a record 60 designers will be featured in this year's BKLYN DESIGNS showcase, which will take place May 9 - 11. Now in its 11th year, BKLYN DESIGNS is a juried exhibition of contemporary furnishings, lighting and home accessories. With thousands of visitors expected to attend over the three day weekend, this is one of the biggest design shows in New York City. Principally held at St. Ann's Warehouse and Mark Jupiter's in DUMBO, this year's exhibition will expand to four additional locations in the neighborhood. (more...)

A major loan exhibition of contemporary Chinese art currently on view at The Metropolitan Museum of Art will be closing soon! Consisting of 70 works created by 35 artists born in China, Ink Art: Past as Present in Contemporary China demonstrates how China's ancient pattern of seeking cultural renewal through the reinterpretation of past models remains a viable creative path. Highlights include Xu Bing's dramatic Book from the Sky (ca. 1988), an installation filling an entire gallery; Family Tree (2000), a set of vivid photographs by Zhang Huan in which his facial features-and his identity-are obscured gradually by physiognomic texts that are inscribed directly onto his face; and Map of China (2006) by Ai Weiwei, which is constructed entirely of wood salvaged from demolished Qing dynasty temples. Eastern Florida State College in Melbourne presents their annual Juried Student Art Exhibit in the Maxwell C. King Center Lobby Gallery now-April 27. This highly competitive exhibit drew nearly 100 entries from EFSC students taking courses in Ceramics, Sculpture, Printmaking, Drawing, Painting, Design, and Computer Graphics. Students were invited to submit assignments that they created in their academic art classes on the Melbourne Campus. The EFSC Melbourne campus Art Department offers approximately 17-24 studio art courses per semester and has an enrollment of up to 650 annually. Students complete foundational coursework necessary for majors as diverse as Graphic Design, Interior Design, Fashion Design, Studio Art, Art Therapy, Art Education, and more. (more...)

The worlds of art, fashion, design, theater and media came together for "Reflections: Art & Beauty" a one-night- only exhibition of significant contemporary art works to benefit Robert Wilson's internationally acclaimed arts incubator The Watermill Center. Hosted by Sherle Wagner International, the premier source, world-wide, for luxury bath hardware, and bath accessories and the recently launched Fairweather Magazine dedicated to following La Dolce Vita world-wide, the Vernissage drew over 400 guests to the gorgeous showroom. A magnificent sculpture in painted and chromed steel, "Rev. E. Piscapalian Study" by the renowned John Chamberlain towered over attendees as they arrived and were greeted by Evan Geoffroy, CEO, Sherle Wagner, Alexandra Fairweather and Eric Goodman, co-founders Fairweather Magazine and Pinki Patel of The Watermill Center.
