CalArts Alumni and Faculty Donate More Than 30 Works of Art for Today's CalArts Benefit Auction

32 works of art have been donated by California Institute of the Arts (CalArts) alumni, faculty and friends, including works by John Baldessari, Walead Beshty, Mike Kelley, Robert Longo, Cathy Opie, Ed Ruscha, Tony Oursler and Jennifer Steinkamp.

The works will be auctioned during Christie's Post-War and Contemporary Art Day Sale today, May 14th, all proceeds of which will benefit the CalArts School of Art, specifically to fund the new John Baldessari Art Studio Building and to endow scholarships for students in the School of Art.

It all takes place on Wednesday, May 14, 12:00 PM, Lots 307 - 338, at Christie's New York (20 Rockefeller Plaza).

About The CalArts Art Benefit and Auction: The CalArts Art Benefit and Auction is a fundraising effort in which more than 80 important works of art donated by CalArts alumni, faculty, and friends will be exhibited and sold this spring. This unprecendented initiative will fund the new John Baldessari Studio Building and endow scholarships for students at the CalArts School of Art.

The initiative launched with an opening reception for the exhibition at Regen Projects in West Hollywood, CA on February 25, 2014 and then traveled to Paula Cooper Gallery and Metro Pictures in New York from April 5 -19, 2014. The works may also be viewed online at Artsy (https://artsy.net/feature/calarts-sale) and via the Artsy iPhone app until May 19, 2014.

The 32 works to be sold at auction by Christie's on May 14 will be on public view from May 8 to May 13 at Christie's New York, 20 Rockefeller Plaza.
