Agora Art Studios Presents 'Silent Spaces' by Boyette & Caceres-Vargas
Agora Art Studios is pleased to announce the first photography exhibit featuring Chesapeake artist Robert Boyette and Peruvian photographer, Jose Caceres-Vargas.
Both artists were invited by Agora Art Studios to display their artwork due to the perfect contrast they represent, but at the same time linked by the nostalgia and perspective of their lens: Boyette is synonym of experience; Caceres-Vargas is hosting his first exhibition. Boyette's work is colorful; Caceres-Vargas works mainly in black and white. Boyette is a local artist; Caceres-Vargas was born and raised in Peru, currently residing in Texas.
Boyette's long love affair with creating art begins as a youngster, sitting on his grandmother's front porch sketching hot rod cars. Later, he earned a degree in Architectural Design. His adult journey into the realm of artistic photography began in the early 70's at Sandbridge Beach with a borrowed camera. Soon after, while serving a tour of duty in the Air Force, he purchased his first 35 mm camera. Through the years, his photography has been displayed in many venues, including numerous outdoor shows, both in Hampton Roads and across Virginia. Robert Boyette resides with his family in Chesapeake.
Jose Caceres-Vargas was born in Lima, Peru in 1969. He started showing a raw talent at a very young age that would take several decades to mature. One night, after several years of being away from photography, he discovered the work of Raymond Depardon and his fellow photographers at Magnum, and he started shooting in Austin, Texas in 2008, learning from great teachers such as Jiro Sashin, Paul Cooklin, Raymond Depardon, Walker Evans and Daido Moriyama; all of them a strong influence in his work. Nephew of Alberto Vargas - painter, creator of the Vargas Girls, and great grandson of Max T. Vargas - father of Alberto Vargas, famous Peruvian photographer, one of the icons of the southern Andean photography school of the late XIX century, Jose Caceres-Vargas accepted the invitation of Agora Art Studios to display his amazing artwork for the first time. He currently resides with his wife and two children in Austin, Texas.
"We wanted to host our first photography exhibit," said George Suarez, artist and co-owner of Agora Art Studios together with his wife Carla, "we wanted a cityscape theme viewed by two different artists, although linked by a common element. In this case, Boyette and Caceres-Vargas share their passion for perspective, tending to depict a certain amount of nostalgia and silence. The result of the combination of their artwork, experience and contrast is fantastic; it is a unique exhibition not to be missed."
