In New York: Moon Guardians
Opening: Thursday, October 24, 7-9pm
October 24-November 24, 2013
9th Avenue at Gansevoort Street
Hours: Nightly from 6pm
A collaboration with More ART, Moon Guardians is a video installation that will be projected in Gansevoort Plaza. This site-specific series of video haikus examines the historical and social context of the Meatpacking District. Ghost-like figures, directly emerging from the neighborhood's storied past, will be rear-projected on windows and storefronts facing the square, each gazing at the viewer and creating a bridge to the past. In Jerusalem: Sfar

October 29 - December 29
National Library of Israel
Safra Campus, The Hebrew University , Givat Ram, Jerusalem
In celebration of its 120th anniversary, the National Library of Israel (NLI) has launched its 12 Artists series, inviting 12 contemporary artists to create new work based on an archive from the NLI's collections. For Sfar, a site-specific projection for the library's entrance glass wall, Cnaani worked with the archive of the German-Jewish Expressionist poet and artist, Else Lasker- Schüler. Using mirror-writing and rear projection, Sfar looks at Lasker-Schüler's work, ever-in-tension between imagination and reality, Europe and the Orient, German and Hebrew.
