Four noted Buffalo playwrights will each present the world premiere of a new ten-minute play during the 2013 Buffalo Infringement Festival. The four plays - each taking place inside and around a stationary automobile - will comprise an evening titled Car Plays 2013, opening tonight, July 25th and running through Saturday, August 3rd (Thursday/Friday/Saturday only).

Car Plays features world premiere short plays by prominent WNY playwrights Jon Elston, Donna Hoke, Steve Roylance, and Darryl Schneider. Audience members - in pairs and trios - will enter the backseat of each of four vehicles in turn, and watch a ten-minute drama or comedy unfold in the front seat. The four-play cycle will begin in rep each night at 6 PM and continue through 8:30 PM.

"Four cars, four plays. You're in the car - and so are the actors!", said Hoke. "It's a unique, intimate theatre experience, not to be missed!" Actors appearing in Car Plays 2013 will include Gerry Maher, Tracy Snyder, Bonnie Jean Taylor, Sabrina Kahwaty, JoNathan Young, Lee Becker, Dan Greer, and Bob Grabowski (Thursday, July 25thonly).

Steve Roylance's play Wyoming focuses on an irreverent father-son debate about the family business. The Pee Test by Donna Hoke follows an audacious college co-ed on a provocative rideshare. Jon Elston's "Always Crashing In The Same Van" invites the public to enjoy a front-row (back)seat to a characteristically awkward, humiliating, and hilarious night in the so-called love life of the titular playwright. And Farm From The Ukraine, the new drama by Darryl Schneider, spotlights a tense exchange between a lovely young European woman and her quietly sinister guide.

Hoke took pains to distinguish Car Plays 2013 from Car Stories, the well-established international fringe festival franchise that also appears on the BIF schedule each summer. "Unlike Car Stories, which is an interactive and informal audience experience, Car Plays are scripted, rehearsed, and directed theatrical productions," promised Hoke, "which just happen to take place in stationary vehicles!"

Car Plays 2013 patrons should meet at the Subversive Theatre doors on Great Arrow in front of the Pierce Arrow building; the event will be in the parking lot at Elmwood and Great Arrow.

"Audience members will see all four plays during their Car Plays experience," assured Hoke, who instructed interested patrons to e-mail for reservations at donna@donnahoke.com with a preferred date. "Walk-ups will be accommodated if possible, but there is very limited space, and reservations are the only way to guarantee a spot." Reservations may be made for groups of two or three and are being accepted now.

Hoke also requested that reserved patrons "please show up at least ten minutes prior to your assigned reservation time, as we will not be able to hold the show for latecomers!"

The complete Car Plays 2013 schedule is as follows:

Donna Hoke is the winner of the 2013 Artie Award for Best New Play for her recent full-length play, Seeds; her work can also be seen currently as part of Buffalo United Artists' ongoingBUA Takes Ten 2013.
