On Friday, September 5 at 8pm, comedian Mike Birbiglia comes to the BAM stage with THANK GOD FOR JOKES, a new show about jokes and how they can get you in trouble. The performance takes place in the Peter Jay Sharp Building, BAM Howard Gilman Opera House.

Join Birbiglia as he tells painfully awkward stories about getting arrested in New Jersey, screamed at by a famous director, heckled by Statler and Waldorf, and attacked by zombie rodents.

Mike Birbiglia is an award-winning comedian, actor, and filmmaker who, over the past 12 years, has developed a one-of-a-kind storytelling style in the world of stand-up comedy. Ira Glass has called Birbiglia's stories "even funnier live than they are on the radio" and Time has called him a "master of the personal, embarrassing tale." Birbiglia is a regular contributor to the Peabody Award-winning radio show This American Life and has released four albums. In 2012 he directed and starred in the feature film adaptation of his one-man show Sleepwalk With Me, which won an audience award at the Sundance Film Festival.

Birbiglia's recent off-Broadway hit, My Girlfriend's Boyfriend, won the Lucille Lortel Award for Outstanding Solo Show and was named a Critics' Pick by The New York Times, New York Magazine, and Time Out New York. Following the show's successful New York run, Birbiglia brought it to more than 70 cities worldwide, including the Sydney Opera House, London's Soho Theatre, and Carnegie Hall.
