Gallery Players to Stage EQUUS, 12/7-22

November 13
12:36 PM 2013

Riding the successes of Blithe Spirit and The Pajama Game, the Gallery Players presents Equus as the next production of its 47th Season. Alfred Gingold* (Manhattan Theatre Club, Metropolitan Playhouse), leads the cast in the behemoth role of Martin Dysart. Joining him are Dean Thomas and Adelind Horan as Alan Strang and Jill Mason, respectively, in their Gallery premieres. Gallery alumni Rosalind Ashford* (Gallery: History Boys) and Greg Horton* (Gallery: A Man of No Importance; NYIT 2012 Outstanding Actor in a Lead Role) will appear once again as Dora and Frank Strang. After leading The History Boys to success last season, Mark Gallagher will again direct aided by Choreographer Christiana Axlesen. The production will be brought to life under Set Designer Young Jaung, Costume Designer Tony Johnson, Lighting Designer Scott Borowka, Sound Designer Jacob Subotnick, Props Designer Sara Slagle, and Production Stage Manager Kathleen Parker. The cast includes J.B. Alexander, Ryan Arthur, Victoria Bundonis*, BranDon Johnson, Kadeem Melvin, Chris Negron, Ryan Pater, and Lindsay Timmington. *Actors appearing courtesy of Actors Equity Association.

Performances will take place at 8:00 pm on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, as well as 2:00 pm matinees on Saturday and 3:00 pm on Sunday. Tickets are $18 for Adults, $14 for senior citizens and children 12 and under. Tickets can be purchased 24/7 online at or by calling OvationTix at 212-352-3101 (phone hours 9-9 weekdays, 10-6 weekends). The GalleryTalks talkback event "Staging the Beast - Animality and Violence in Equus" featuring guest scholar Meron Langsner will follow the Sunday, December 8th performance. Equus contains strong language and nudity and is recommended for mature audiences only. Equus is an Actors Equity Association approved showcase.

As the boy who has explosively blinded six horses, Alan Strang is met by psychologist DR. Martin Dysart, who seeks not only to understand the act itself, but the passion behind it. As he explores, he must surface many mysterious twists and turns inside Alan's head -the contrasting religious and secular influence of his parents, his desire to understand his own sexuality, his love for everything equine. However, in the ultimate confrontation, Dysart faces his own passionate pitfall head on. Boasting a magnificent slate of actors and highly original design, Gallery's Equus is guaranteed to have audiences on The Edge of their seat until the last second.
