Don McLean is an American folk-singer known for his ability to tell story through song. Many of his works were inspired by true events; 'Vincent' was inspired by troubled artist Vincent Van Gough, 'American Pie', was inspired by the tragic death of Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens & The Big Bopper in a plane crash, 'Wonderful Baby' is about Fred Astaire (whom later covered the song himself), and 'Superman's Ghost', was inspired by George Reeves who portrayed Superman.

Don also has writing credits for artists including Drake and Olivia Newton-John. He is held in the highest regard by musical royalty; his cover of Roy Orbison's hit 'Crying', which peaked at No. 5 on the Billboard charts, was named by Orbison as the best cover of the song he had ever heard, claiming McLean did a better job than he did. His songs have been covered by Elvis Presley, Shirley Bassey, Glen Campbell, Josh Groban, George Michael, Madonna, and even punk band NOFX.
