A mirror joining two stories. In Machado de Assis tale of a mirror makes the Alferes Jacobina, to see their image reflected uniform, feel alive and get strength to survive. Based on a short story by Oscar Wilde, the Zemlinsky opera shows us a mirror causing the dwarf given as a present to the Infanta of Spain, noticing for the first time its ugliness and seek death.
