On Thursday, March 2, Krista Tippett will take the stage to discuss her New York Times bestseller BECOMING WISE: An Inquiry into the Mystery and Art of Living, now available in paperback for the first time. In this remarkable book, Peabody Award-winning broadcaster and National Humanities Medalist Krista Tippett has created a master class in living in a fractured world, drawn from the stories of extraordinary individuals who possess "spiritual genius." Tippett distills the insights she has gleaned from these luminous characters to explore the meaning of life in its many dimensions.

The 7pm event includes a brief author presentation followed by an onstage interview with Virginia Prescott, host of New Hampshire Public Radio's "Word of Mouth." It will be held at The Music Hall's Historic Theater at 28 Chestnut Street, in downtown Portsmouth, New Hampshire. To secure a copy of a signed book, purchase a voucher in advance ($17, paperback).

"So many of us are listening to Krista Tippett's On Being for its wisdom and its enlightenment," said Patricia Lynch, Executive Producer of Writers on a New England Stage. "The in-depth discussions she has with her distinguished guests-from poets to scientists-are just the starting point for this book. Her work is a profound reflection on the journey of the human soul. It is sure to inspire."

ABOUT THE BOOK

The heart of Krista Tippett's beloved radio program On Being has been to shine a light on the most extraordinary people at work on the big issues and questions of the day. Scientists, theologians, poets, activists, and many others have had candid and revealing conversations with Tippett. With BECOMING WISE, the author plumbs these conversations and reflects on her own journey to identify virtues and tools for conscious living.

BECOMING WISE is a master class in living for a fractured world. Fracture, Tippett says, is not the whole story of our time. The enduring question of what it means to be human has become intertwined with the challenge of who we are to each other. She insists on the possibility of personal depth and authentic life, nurtured not only by science, but also by the "spiritual technologies," with civility and love as muscular public practice. And, accompanied by a cross-disciplinary dream team of a teaching faculty, she shows us how.

In a time when fear and a lack of compassion color many of our nation's public conversations, BECOMING WISE offers a powerful antidote. Krista Tippett imparts within the reader the strength to recognize the world as it is, and then to make it even better.

KRISTA TIPPETT is a Peabody Award-winning broadcaster and New York Times bestselling author. In 2014, she received the National Humanities Medal at the White House for "thoughtfully delving into the mysteries of human existence." She is the host of the public radio program and podcast On Being.

To secure a copy of a signed book, purchase a voucher in advance ($17, paperback). Tickets can be purchased through The Music Hall Box Office, located at 28 Chestnut Street, Portsmouth, or over the phone at 603.436.2400.
