BroadwayWorld has confirmed that Tony winner Jessie Mueller will star in American Repertory Theater's world premiere of WAITRESS this fall. Mueller previously played 'Jenna' in a winter workshop of the musical.

With book by Jessie Nelson and music & lyrics by Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter Sara Bareilles ("Brave", "Love Song"), WAITRESS is based on the motion picture written by Adrienne Shelly and will be directed by Diane Paulus (PIPPIN, FINDING NEVERLAND) at the Loeb Drama Center, beginning August 1.

Jenna (Mueller), a waitress and expert pie maker, is stuck in a small town and a loveless marriage. When a baking contest in a nearby county offers her a chance at escape, Jenna must choose between her commitments and her dreams. Her customers, co-workers, and the town's handsome new doctor all offer her conflicting recipes for happiness - but Jenna ultimately has to decide for herself. This poignant and uplifting new musical celebrates talent hiding in the most unlikely places.

Mueller last starred on Broadway in BEAUTIFUL: THE CAROLE KING MUSICAL, for which she won a Tony Award last year. Among her past credits are ON A CLEAR DAY YOU CAN SEE FOREVER (which earned her a Tony nomination), NICE WORK IF YOU CAN GET IT and THE MYSTERY OF EDWIN DROOD. She also recently appeared in INTO THE WOODS at the Delacorte and in the New York Philharmonic's production of CAROUSEL.
