The Company Theatre to Hold Open Auditions for Dracula

The award-winning Company Theatre announces open call auditions for their upcoming production of Dracula on Thursday, August 11 at 6 pm at The Company Theatre Center for Performing Arts, 30 Accord Park Drive, Norwell. Dracula is dramatized by Hamilton Deane and John L. Balderston, from the novel by Bram Stoker, directed by Maryann Zschau. All roles are open for casting, non-equity and equity members will be considered. Further information and a rehearsal schedule will be available at auditions.

From the pages of Bram Stoker's novel to the pen of playwright Ted Tiller, comes a wonderfully eerie horror classic Dracula. Set in an English manor house in the 1920s, the persuasive and sexy Count Dracula peruses his passion of sinking his teeth into the throats of beautiful women. Bats fly, wolves howl and spectators enjoy the fun, horror and magical effects.

Audition candidates should bring a headshot or snapshot. A resume is helpful, but not required. Callbacks may be held on Sunday, August 14, 12 noon.

Rehearsal throughout the production season are held Mondays and Thursdays from 6:30 to 9:30 pm, Sundays from 2 to 5 pm.

Performances of Dracula are be held from October 14 through 30, with show times at 7:30 pm or 8:00 pm from Thursday through Saturday, Sunday matinee performances are held at 3:00 pm. Character Descriptions and Voice Ranges:

Dracula - Polished, distinguished and charismatic, yet sexy, mysterious and menacing. He has come to England to corrupt Lucy into becoming his true bride. Dracula's greatest strength is his patience born of immortality. Age range: 40-50.

Dr. Seward - A doctor who runs a sanatarium outside London. He is called for help when Lucy's becomes seriously ill. He is a straightforward and intelligent man of science who has tremendous difficulty coming to terms with the supernatural truth about vampires. Age range: 40-50.

Lucy - Dr. Seward's daughter. engaged to Jonathan Harker. She also looks exactly like a woman Dracula loved when he was mortal. His overwhelming desire to make Lucy his bride is what forces him to overreach and make himself vulnerable. Suffering from an unidentifiable illness, she is languid and vulnerable. Age range: early 20s-30.

Jonathan Harker - A young lawyer engaged to Lucy and very concerned about her mysterious illness. Impulsive and excitable. Age range: 25-30.

Van Helsing - A good friend of Dr. Seward's, who is called in when Lucy's condition cannot be identified. He is familiar with vampires and Count Dracula in particular, and therefore able to organize a defense against him. A man of great knowledge and resourceful action, his strategy is to catch Dracula off guard before he can raise all his defenses. However, he must balance that against the need to slow down to convince others of the true peril before they will help him Age range: 50+.

Renfield - A mental patient in Seward's asylum. A former English gentleman who has been corrupted by Dracula into madness. He provides comic relief but also proves to be an unlikely source of help against the Count. Age range: 30-40.

Butterworth - An attendant at Dr. Seward's sanatarium. Comic relief character perpetually pursuing Renfield after his escape attempts. Cockney accent preferred. Age range: 30-50.

Maid - Servant who falls under Dracula's spell as he attempts to corrupt Lucy. Another comic relief character. Cockney accent preferred. Age range: any.
