For the past 4 years, Steps has been packing them in for what has become a "must see" tradition for many local families, the annuAl Halloween Show and Super Kid's Halloween Party at Steps Off Broadway Theatre in Bellingham, and tickets are going fast!

This year's offering is a spoof of those crazy kiddies pageants, like the ones depicted in reality TV shows such as "Toddlers and Tiaras" and "Little Miss Perfect". Steps' clever musical, "Little Miss Horrors", follows the zany Tweep family as they venture into the upside-down world of beauty pageants...held in Transylvania. Steps, a local performing arts academy offering highly accredited and professionally taught classes in dance, theatre and voice, has had yearly sellout performances of the highly popular "Horror High Trilogy", three original musicals based on the teenage monster movies of the 1950's. Think Teenage Frankenstein & Dracula's Daughter meets "Grease". "We wanted to try something completely different this year," says Steps Producing Artistic Director, Keith Mottola. "Everyone always jokes about the kids pageant shows on TV. My creative director, Michael La Fleur, and I thought this was the perfect subject for a new storyline." La Fleur, a long time friend of Mottola's, is a major supporter of Steps and an internationally known stage director and show creator, with productions running around the world for Disney, Universal Studios and major theatres across the US.

"Little Miss Horrors" is a full-blown Broadway-style stage production with elaborate sets and costumes, and a full score of parody tunes and showstoppers. But the real stars of the production are the amazingly talented students and volunteers of Steps. "Everyone from toddlers, grade-schoolers, high-schoolers, to collage kids and even their parents, they all want to be involved with our Halloween Show. Our auditions are on September 17th from 5pm to 8pm at Steps, and open to anyone who wants to be a part of this incredibly fun and surprisingly educational experience", says Mottola.

"The Halloween shows at Steps are a bit of a phenomena", says La Fleur, "entire families are involved onstage, backstage and even in set construction and costuming. We have an extremely talented group of kids at Steps. They love this show and can't wait to start rehearsals. This year's show is going to be a blast to create. The collection of characters, pageant kids, stage mothers, stay at home dads, ignored little brothers and greedy con artists is offering up some very funny material. Now, make them all residents of Transylvania, where the rules of beauty and grace are very different, well, the possibilities are endless."

Another boost is Steps' annual Super Kids Halloween Party, which starts at noon, just before the October 31st 2pm showing of "Little Miss Horrors". Guests can attend the party, which features free food and drinks, games and prizes, face painting, a costume contest and many more surprises, and stay to see "Little Miss Horrors". A great family day! At the party, there will be live walk-around Halloween Characters for the kids to play and dance with. The party is family friendly and not at all scary, so it's perfect for the very young. Last year's party was a hit, with the kid's doing the Hokey Pokey with a silly absent-minded zombie named Mike. "Zombie Mike" was a rock star to these kids", says Mottola, 'they were all over him, even the little tiny ones. They loved him." The party is elaborately decorated, never dark or creepy, and the fun never stops.

"Little Miss Horrors" plays October 22, 23, 29, 30 at 7:30pm & October 24, 31 at 2:00pm
Admission is $15 for adults and $10 for kids under 12. You can add on the Super Kids Halloween Party for an additional $5.

Tickets for Super Kids Halloween Party on October 31st at 12pm are $10 (party only)

Steps Cabaret Theatre is located at 799 South Main Street, in The Bellingham Marketplace, Bellingham, and all proceeds from the events will go to support the many dance, theatre and performing arts programs Steps has for students of all ages, and their students with special needs.
