Happy Medium Theatre, Inc. (HMT) will present The American Plan, written by Richard Greenberg and directed by Melanie Garber from June 8th – 16th, 2012 at the Factory Theatre, 791 Tremont Street, Boston, MA, 02118.

HMT's take on The American Plan is an exciting new look at an early, acclaimed play by the Tony Award-winning author of Take Me Out. It is the Catskill Mountains in the early 1960s, and Lili Adler and her mother Eva are spending the summer across the lake from a bustling hotel where comics entertain and buffets overflow.

When a handsome young stranger enters their world, the emotionally fragile Lili finds herself falling in love. But once her imperious mother learns of their relationship, lies are exposed, alliances are forged and Lili's one chance to escape her mother's control may be lost forever.

The cast are Mikey DiLoreto (Trog and Clay: An Imagined History of the Electric Chair, Fresh Ink Theatre), Lauren Foster (Godspell, The Lexington Players), Robyn Linden (Foreverendia, 11:11 Theatre), Nick Miller (REFUGE, Happy Medium Theatre), and Audrey Lynn Sylvia (The Country Club, Happy Medium Theatre).

Richard Greenberg (born 1958) is an American playwright. He is the author of over 25 plays including eight South Coast Repertory world premieres: Our Mother's Brief Affair, The Injured Party, The Violet Hour, Everett Beekin, Hurrah at Last, Three Days of Rain (Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle Award, Pulitzer Prize finalist, Olivier, Drama Desk and Hull-Warriner nominations), Night and Her Stars and The Extra Man. His play, Take Me Out, traveled from London to New York in the first co-production of the Donmar Warehouse and The Public Theater, and transferred to Broadway in early 2003 where it won the Tony Award for Best Play. His other plays include The Dazzle (Outer Critics Circle Award, Lucille Lortel and John Gassner nominations), The American Plan, Life Under Water and The Author's Voice. Recently, his adaptation of August Strindberg's Dance of Death could be seen on Broadway, starring Ian McKellen, Helen Mirren and David Strathairn. He is a winner of the Oppenheimer Award and the first winner of the PEN/Laura Pels Award for a playwright in mid-career.
