Provincetown Theater Announces 'Mad Genius / Dangerous Love' 2017 Season

Provincetown Theater's Executive Artistic Director, Tristan DiVincenzo has announced the theater's extensive 2017 season entitled "MAD GENIUS/ DANGEROUS LOVE."

This year's focus is on five major historical "Revolutionary Creatives" exploring their motivations, the political challenges of their times, and the personal sacrifices they made in their attempts to push culture and society in a positive direction.


Salome

Oscar Wilde's scandalous play takes place at King Herod's birthday party. "The Man Who Has It All" only wants one thing- for his stepdaughter Salome to dance for him. He promises to give her absolutely anything in return. What she asks for is unbelievable.

Amadeus

This "Tony Award- winning" play tells the highly fictionalized biography of the lives of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and his rival composer Antonio Salieri.

Metamorphoses

Mary Zimmerman's "Tony Award- winning" mythic performance piece Metamorphoses is based on David R. Slavitt's free-verse translation of the classic Metamorphoses of Ovid. Provincetown Theater's multi-sensory summer production features; live music, video projection,and dance. The production's beautiful multi-generational cast takes main stage in a huge indoor swimming pool which is sure to amaze.

Mary Shelley's Frankenstein 1818

Doctor Victor Frankenstein risks his life to conquer death. Frankenstein is undoubtedly one of the most famous "Monster Stories" of all time. Join the adventure this Halloween Season through Arctic Seas, Medieval Universities, and the notorious Genevan Chateau of Lord Byron. The cast of Dracula for Dummies returns with more surprises as they reenact the journal of the infamous scientist and are pursued by the abomination and the horrors it leaves in its wake.

Charles Dickens' "A Christmas Carol" 1843

Audiences never lose affection for this Yuletide classic, as they literally follow the ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Future, and Ebenezer Scrooge on a journey of redemption. Scrooge's transformation from miserable miser to generous soul speaks to all ages of all times.

The Provincetown Theater Community Project (PTCP) wraps up its 2017 season with its annual Gala Fundraiser benefiting The Provincetown Theater Foundation. This year pull out your bell bottoms and head down to Studio 54 to dance the night away!


The (PTCP) is an initiative of The Provincetown Theater to embrace and develop local theater artist, companies, and aspiring producers. The goal is to expand the dialogue between theater makers and audiences and to serve as a cultural resource for Provincetown and the Theatrical Community at large.

The Provincetown Theater is a year-round community-driven center for the performing arts. 2017 will present several new "shoulder season" events, designed by PTCP to continue to develop community relationships, partnering with core cultural and civic institutions. The Stage Study Series is a community-building initiative offering free classes, readings, performances, demonstrations and lectures on Wednesday and Saturday evenings.
