IF/THEN the Musical in Broadway IF/THEN THE MUSICAL
Cohasset Dramatic Club
3/17-3/25/2017
Cohasset Dramatic Club (CDC) is proud to present the Broadway musical IF/THEN, March 17-25, at Cohasset Town Hall stage. Based on an original story, IF/THEN tells a tale of choices made, lives led, as well as the lives that might had been. As Elizabeth, a newly divorced city planner, moves back to New York City to restart her life, her careful plans collide with the whims of fate. While her life splits into two parallel paths, IF/THEN follows both stories simultaneously and unveils the consequences of choice and chance. The cast includes Boston-area actors featuring Ann McCoy (Hingham) as Liz/Beth, Michael Warner (Weymouth) as Josh, Ricky DeSisto (Brockton) as Lucas, and Michelle Margulies (Natick) as Kate. Performances are March 17, 18, 23, 24 and 25 at 7:30 p.m., and March 19 at 2:00 p.m. at Cohasset Town Hall stage, 41 Highland Ave., Cohasset, MA.

Octavia E. Butler's Parable of the Sower: A Concert Performance in Broadway OCTAVIA E. BUTLER'S PARABLE OF THE SOWER: A CONCERT PERFORMANCE
Emerson/Paramount Center - Robert J. Orchard Stage
3/23-3/26/2017
In this genre-defying work of concert performance featuring 20 artists on stage, Octavia E. Butler's Parable of the Sower brings together 30 powerful songs drawn from 200 years of African-American song traditions to give musical life to Butler’s acclaimed science fiction novel of the same name. Written by Toshi Reagon, who Vibe Magazine called “one helluva rock’n’roller-coaster ride,” in collaboration with her mother, Bernice Johnson Reagon, the iconic singer, scholar and activist, Parable of the Sower becomes a mesmerizing theatrical work of rare power and beauty that reveals deep insights on gender, race and the future of human civilization. Parable of the Sower tells the story of young Lauren Olamina, who lives in a not-so-distant America, where climate change has driven society to violence and the brink of extinction. When she loses both family and home, Lauren ventures out unprotected. What begins as a desperate flight for survival leads to something much more – a startling vision of human destiny which births “Earthseed,” a new faith founded upon the idea that “God is Change”.

Curtain Up: New Musical Theater Songs by Berklee Students in Broadway CURTAIN UP: NEW MUSICAL THEATER SONGS BY BERKLEE STUDENTS
Berklee Performance Center
3/27-3/27/2017
The eighth annual music theater concert will feature brand-new, original musical theater songs written, orchestrated, and performed by Berklee and Boston Conservatory at Berklee students and alumni. Representing the diversity of theater and theater music today, the works feature pop, rock, jazz, punk, R&B, and rap, as well as more traditional Broadway fare. Songs take place on a pirate ship, in Kuala Lumpur, in a 1950’s mental institution, and at a sex-ed classroom in a Catholic girls school. Featuring a powerhouse band and an array of theater talent, the concert celebrates the winners of the Curtain Up Musical Theater Songwriting Contest. The winning songwriters were assigned another student to serve as orchestrator for the 14-piece band. This type of composer/orchestrator collaboration is the industry standard for a Broadway show, and many recent alumni of Curtain Up have gone on to work on Broadway productions, such as Hamilton and Dear Evan Hansen. Others have become Dramatist Guild Fellows, attended NYU’s Graduate Program in Musical Theater Writing, and/or attended the BMI Musical Theater Writing Workshop. The concert is directed by Berklee faculty members Kevin Bleau, Jeri Sykes, and Michael Wartofsky; and choreographed by Berklee Assistant Professor Kristin Bohr and Boston Conservatory at Berklee Musical Theater Dance faculty Larry Sousa. The event is sponsored by the Contemporary Musical Theater Initiative and the Musical Theater Writing Minor.

Brian Calhoon’s Marimba Cabaret in Broadway BRIAN CALHOON’S MARIMBA CABARET
Club Cafe
3/16-5/4/2017
When a classically-trained percussionist with a secret love of musical theater --and killer taste in shoes-- puts on a show, Brian Calhoon’s Marimba Cabaret brings together years of training and a lifetime of passion in an evening of theater tunes, art song, and pop covers performed on marimba, vibraphone, and voice. With covers ranging from Leonard Bernstein to Florence + The Machine, Jason Robert Brown to Sondheim, Paul McCartney to Outkast, Rufus Wainwright to Imogen Heap, with a little Whitney Houston mash-up for good measure, there’s something for everyone in this eclectic evening of songs. The series of three shows each has a different theme with special guest artists: The March 16 cabaret will focus on the theme of “love and relationships” and includes special guest and arranger Sharon Chen on marimba. The April 13 concert will be focused on “coming out and being true to yourself” with guest artist and composer Audrey Harrer on harp and voice. The May 4 concert will focus on “mental health” and features guest three vocalists: Sonja Tengblad, Sophie Michaux, and Christina English, who are known nationally as outstanding soloists and as part of the Lorelei Ensemble.
