Juventas New Music Ensemble announces the premiere of HackPolitik: a unique contemporary ballet that combines new music, dance and video projection technology to examine the internet's effect on 21st century discourse. The ballet's world premiere performances will take place November 15 and 16 at the Boston University Dance Theater.

HackPolitik is choreographed by Kate Ladenheim, Artistic Director of the NY-based contemporary Dance Company People Movers. Music is composed by popular Boston-based composer Peter Van Zandt Lane, and the production is conducted by Juventas Artistic Director Lidiya Yankovskaya.

HackPolitik takes as its starting point the December 2010 internet attack on global financial institutions by the "hacktivist" group known as Anonymous, exploring how technology has revolutionized political dissidence.

Composer Peter Van Zandt Lane and Choreographer Kate Ladenheim skillfully set the real-life politics and drama of cyberspace to the stage, using characters known to be associated with the group Anonymous. The ballet is an exploration, through music and dance, of how the lines between activism and anarchy have become blurred in the 21st century.

Juventas New Music Ensemble, founded in 2005, commissions and produces new, innovative music by young, emerging composers. The company has produced the work of more than 100 composers in 75 productions. Each year, among other work, Juventas commissions one new opera and a new orchestral work. The company has won national awards, including The American Prize for Best Professional Opera Production (2012).

NYC-based The People Movers is a vibrant, contemporary Dance Company dedicated to the creation of physical art. The group has shown work at the Luminarium Dance 24-Hour Choreofest, the inaugural Boston Contemporary Dance Festival, the DUMBO Dance Festival 2012, the CURRENT SESSIONS (Volume III, Issue I) and DIXON Place.

Composer Peter Van Zandt Lane is a Boston-based composer of instrumental and electroacoustic music, with a widely performed catalog of works for ensembles spanning all types and sizes. His compositions have been performed across the United States, as well as in Europe and South America.
