Huntington Theatre Company Announces One Day Sale $25 Tickets To FENCES and A LONG AND WINDING ROAD

The Huntington Theatre Company will offer $25 tickets to select performances of August Wilson's Pulitzer Prize winner Fences and to the world premiere of Grammy Award-winning pop icon Maureen McGovern's A Long and Winding Road at a special One Day Sale on Thursday, August 20. Tickets will be available online, by phone, and in person at the Boston University Theatre Box Office, located at 264 Huntington Avenue, Boston.

The Huntington's periodic One Day Sales supplement standing discount ticket programs that reduce ticket prices to the Company's world-class productions to rates that are affordable for all. See below for a full list of discounts. Standard discounted and full-priced single tickets to all productions in the Huntington's Season of American Stories also go on sale August 20.

Fences is acclaimed playwright August Wilson's Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning sixth chapter in his groundbreaking decade-by-decade exploration of the heritage and experience of African-Americans in the 20th century. It tells the story of Troy Maxson, a former Negro Leagues star who peaked too soon for baseball's integration and instead hit the ceiling of racial prejudice. Working as a garbage collector in 1957 Pittsburgh, he tangles with his son Cory, a gifted football star who sees the world through different eyes and his wife Rose who yearns for an outlet for her love. Fences, the ninth of Wilson's plays to be staged by the Huntington, one of his longstanding artistic homes, is directed by Kenny Leon (Radio Golf and Gem of the Ocean for the Huntington and on Broadway). Fences plays at the Boston University Theatre September 11 - October 11, 2009.

A Long and Winding Road is the world premiere of Grammy Award-winning pop icon Maureen McGovern's musical memoir that chronicles the moments that define the Baby Boomer generation. Best known for her breakout hit, the Academy Award-winning "The Morning After," McGovern returns to her roots as a folk singer to perform the classic songs The New York Times has dubbed "the second half of the Great American Songbook" including the music of Bob Dylan, Carole King, The Beatles, Joni Mitchell, Paul Simon, Laura Nyro, and many more. A Long and Winding Road is conceived by McGovern and Philip Himberg, who also directs. Jeffrey D. Harris provides musical direction and accompaniment. A Long and Winding Road plays at the Calderwood Pavilion at the BCA October 9 - November 15, 2009.

The $25 tickets will be on sale online at huntingtontheatre.org on Thursday, August 20 from 9 a.m. until midnight. From 12pm until 6pm, discounted tickets can be purchased by phone at 617 266-0800 or in person at the Huntington's Boston University Theatre Box Office, 264 Huntington Avenue. The BostonTheatreScene Box Office, operated by the Huntington and located at the Stanford Calderwood Pavilion at the Boston Center for the Arts (527 Tremont Street) will not be open. Single tickets to all productions also go on sale online at 9am and by phone and in person at 12pm.

The Huntington's 2009-2010 Season of American Stories is the first in the Company's 28-year history comprised entirely of plays by American writers. In addition to Fences and A Long and Winding Road, the season also includes the following:

· Moving Family Portrait: Stick Fly, a New England premiere by Huntington Playwriting Fellow Lydia R. Diamond, directed by Kenny Leon, presented in collaboration with Arena Stage, February 19 - March 27, 2010 at the Calderwood Pavilion at the BCA
· Acclaimed New Comedy: Becky Shaw, a New England premiere, Huntington Artistic Director Peter Dubois' smash hit New York production of Gina Gionfriddo's comedy, a 2009 Pulitzer Prize finalist, March 5 - April 4, 2010 at the B.U. Theatre
· Contemporary Classic: Prelude to a Kiss, a romantic comedy by Craig Lucas, a 1991 Pulitzer Prize finalist, directed by Peter Dubois, May 14 - June 13, 2010 at the B.U. Theatre
