Huntington Sets Special Events Alongside Nick Offerman-Led A CONFEDERACY OF DUNCES

In conjunction with its upcoming production of A CONFEDERACY OF DUNCES, the Huntington Theatre Company will host a number of special events and post-show conversations.

Admission to onsite post-show events is free with a ticket to A CONFEDERACY OF DUNCES, available at huntingtontheatre.org/A CONFEDERACY OF DUNCES/ by phone at 617 266 0800, or in person at the (264 Huntington Avenue) and Calderwood Pavilion at the BCA (527 Tremont Street) box offices. Friday, November 13, following the 8pm performance

A post-show party for the region's culturally curious ages 35 and below featuring backstage access, free refreshments, and live entertainment by Berklee Trio. Mingle with members of the cast, creative team, and Huntington staff. 35 Below tickets are available at all performances to patrons 35 and under for just $30.

COOLIDGE CORNER SCREENING OF DOWN BY LAW

Monday, November 16 at 7pm

A "neo-Beat noir comedy," about three hapless men - an unemployed disc jockey (Tom Waits), a small-time pimp (John Lurie), and a strong-willed Italian tourist (Roberto Benigni) - in a Louisiana prison filled with colorful characters and comic misadventures. Join us for a conversation after the screening with A CONFEDERACY OF DUNCES adapter Jeffrey Hatcher and the Huntington's Charles Haugland, and compare the film to John Kennedy Toole's iconic characters.

HUMANITIES FORUM

Sunday, November 22 after the 2pm performance

Join Huntington dramaturg Charles Haugland and Southern writing expert Thomas Underwood, Harvard professor and senior lecturer in the College of Arts and Sciences Writing Program at Boston University, for an in depth discussion about themes and subject matter in A CONFEDERACY OF DUNCES following the 2pm performance.

Humanities Forums are presented in conjunction with all Huntington productions.

Thomas Underwood's course "The Rhetoric of Freedom in America" is the recipient of many awards for teaching college writing, including the Arthur G.B. Metcalf Cup and Prize for Excellence in Teaching, Boston University's highest teaching honor. For his work teaching at Harvard College, he earned more than a dozen citations from the Derek Bok Center for Teaching and Learning. He has also been awarded the Harvard University Extension School's James E. Conway Award for Excellence in Teaching Writing. Mr. Underwood, Senior Lecturer (Master Level) in the College of Arts and Sciences Writing Program, is the author of Allen Tate: Orphan of the South and is co-editor of Blacks at Harvard: A Documentary History of African-American Experience at Harvard and Radcliffe and of The Southern Agrarians and the New Deal: Essays After I'll Take My Stand. In 2007 he was selected for inclusion in Contemporary Authors.
