On FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 4, 2011 the F.U.D.G.E. Theatre Company will present their Eleventh Anniversary Season's inaugural production of "SPRING AWAKENING. " 

Directed, choreographed and designed by JOE DeMITA with Musical Direction by STEVEN BERGMAN, the 2007 Tony Award, Drama Desk Award and Grammy Award winning Best Musical will run through SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 12 at The Arsenal Center for the Arts Black Box Theatre (321 Arsenal Street, Watertown, MA).

The SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 5 performance has been set aside as the OFFICIAL PRESS PERFORMANCE.

Based on the scandalous 1891 Frank Wedekind play, "SPRING AWAKENING" features an electrifying score by Duncan Sheik with a book and lyrics Steven Sater,

Set against the backdrop of repressive late 19th century Germany, "SPRING AWAKENING" tells the story of self-discovery and budding sexuality as seen through the eyes of three teenagers.

Haunting and provocative, the musical celebrates a journey from youth to adulthood with power, poignancy a passion.

"SPRING AWAKENING" opened on Broadway on December 10, 2006 at the Eugene O'Neill Theatre, following its World Premiere at the Atlantic Theatre Company earlier in 2006. At its closing it had performed 859 performances on Broadway and 29 previews.

In addition to Best Musical Tony the show additionally garnered seven additional Tony Awards as well as four Drama Desk Awards (including Best Musical) and a Theatre World Award.

The original cast recording of "SPRING AWAKENING" won the 2008 Grammy Award for Best Musical Show Album.

"SPRING AWAKENING" was the most talked about Broadway production in years.

ABOUT JOE DeMITA
JOE DeMITA (Director/Choreographer) is one of the founders of The F.U.D.G.E Theatre Company, Inc. Directing credits include Jake's Women (Stonehill Theatre Company), Company (Winthrop Playmakers), and the F.U.D.G.E. productions of Once On This Island, Working, Rumors, Urinetown, Dedication or The Stuff of Dreams, I Sing!, The House of Blue Leaves, Into the Woods, Bat Boy, I Love You Because (Boston Premiere), Fuddy Meers, and bare (Boston Premiere). Joe has also served as the directing intern to Rob Ruggiero at TheatreWorks Hartford on productions of The Exonerated (featuring TV/Film star Kim Fields) and the world premiere musical Ella: Off the Record (starring Broadway's Tina Fabrique). In the Boston area, Joe served as the assistant director to Adam Zahler on the Lyric Stage's production of Talley's Folly. His work on the Company's production of "Nevermore" received unanimous critical acclaim. He most recently directed the F.U.D.G.E. Theatre Company's World Premiere of Charles Antin and Ryan Cunningham's romantic comedy, Half-Married, the critically acclaimed A Midsummer Night's Dream, Barefoot in the Park, The Glorious Ones and the sold-out and heralded production of Carousel. Mr. DeMita and the company recently received three coveted IRNE Award Nominations.

ABOUT STEVEN BERGMAN
Steven Bergman (Musical Director) is making his debut with F.U.D.G.E. Recent musical director credits include "Adding Machine: A Musical" (Speakeasy Stage - IRNE and Norton Award winner for Best Musical), "Disney's Beauty and the Beast' (Wheelock Family Theatre, New Bedford Festival Theatre), as well as dozens of shows throughout the region. As a composer, original scores include "Animal Farm," "Four Kisses," "The Curse is Reversed!," and "Jack the Ripper: the Whitechapel Musical." As a keyboardist, shows include "Nunsense Jamboree" (National tour with Georgia Engel, CD/DVD with Vicki Lawrence), national tours of "Sunday in the Park with George," "Dreamgirls," "Guys and Dolls," and "Les Miserables."
