OBERON, the American Repertory Theater's (A.R.T.) second stage and club theater venue on the fringe of Harvard Square, announces all the offerings to be presented at OBERON during October and November, in addition to the previously announced productions, including Visiting Artists, Artists in Residence, and Usual Suspects.


CONSENSES, FESTIVAL OF THE SENSES

Presented by Sally Taylor

Tuesday, September 30 & Wednesday, October 1 at 6:00PM & 8:00PM

This interactive art experience features the work of 140 artists from 23 countries in an artistic game of "Telephone". For the past two years, Consenses' Founder Sally Taylor has brought together artists of every genre by asking them to interpret one another's artwork in their own medium. A dancer interprets a song, a painter interprets the dance, a perfumer interprets the painting and so on until all five senses are represented. Guests are welcome to drink, taste, smell, touch, and explore in this new artistic venture.

RETURN TO CANDYLAND

With hula hoops, ballerinas, fan dancing, hip-hop, Siamese twins, latex, and a heavy emphasis on glitter and skill, Return to Candyland will lead you through a lavishly upgraded "Candy Kingdom" of burlesque as you visit all the characters you know, and meet a few new ones along the way. Join the cast as they whip, sprinkle, and put a cherry on top of your very own honey-glazed memories from a decidedly sweeter time.

AcousticaElectronica sends the audience on a tantalizing voyage filled with sensual and emotional discoveries as elements of electronic and classical music, dance, circus arts and immersive theater are fused with the infectious energy of the contemporary nightclub. Dancers, symphonies, aerialists, operas, and live musicians (THE WIG included) all happen aroundevery inch of the space to keep the audience guessing at every turn.

Broadway veteran Jeannette Bayardelle (The Color Purple) returns to A.R.T. after 2010's Best of Both Worlds with her inspirational one-woman musical, Shida. Set to a soulful score of rock, jazz, R&B, and gospel, Shida is based on the true story of an African-American girl who aspires to become a writer. Her dreams become sidetracked by hardship until her faith and thoseclosest to her combine to restore Shida's hope and give her a second chance.

SIRENS OF DOOMSDAY 2: BLACKER THAN DARKNESS

A true act of burlesque bizarre, Sirens of Doomsday 2: Blacker than Darkness is an interactive experience from The Slaughterhouse Sweethearts. Each show features an expert in a somewhat obscure field and a group of comedians try to guess what in the world our expert really studies. Afterwards, the expert dissects how wildly wrong (or right) the ideas about her field were and concludes with an interview where we find out why her field is important. It's funny, it's interactive, and you end up actually learning something.

One Year Lease Theater Company presents pool (no water), a visceral play about the fragility of friendship and the jealousy inspired by success. A famous artist invites old friends to her new home for a long awaited reunion. But the celebration comes to an abrupt end when the host suffers ahorrific accident. An almost unthinkable plan starts to take shape: could her suffering be the group's next work of art? This is an unflinching look at the vulnerability of friendship, the power of resentment, and a deep-seated yearning to create something truly memorable.

Hailed as a "cultural phenomenon" by Newsweek and celebrated for years by the likes of This American Life, The Today Show, The Onion AV Club, & Entertainment Weekly, Mortified is a comic excavation of teen angst artifacts (journals, poems, letters, lyrics, home movies, schoolwork) as shared by their original authors - in front of total strangers. Where else can you hear grown men and women confront their past with firsthand tales of their first kiss, first puff, worst prom, fights with mom, life at bible camp, worst hand job, best mall job, and reasons they deserved to marry Bon Jovi? Submissions come from professional performers to total amateurs, all in thenoble pursuit of self-degradation. Share the shame.

MOONBOX CABARET 2014

A rousing evening of song and dance takes center stage in the first ever Moonbox Cabaret. Boston Circus Guild (BCG) celebrates Halloween with four nights of macabre and unsavory circus, live music and horror in Cirque of the Dead. Promising to be an intense evening of entertainment, this gruesome journey will feature live music, burlesque, aerials, acrobatics, juggling and two bands. Johnny Blazes and the Pretty Boys will put a soulful twist on some spooky standards on October 23 & 24, while the ever-raucous Emperor Norton's Stationary Marching Band will rock out on October 30 & 31.

THE MOTH

The Moth is open to anyone with a five-minute story to share on the night's posted theme. The brave of heart, or those with stories they're aching to tell, prepare personal, true tales. When the doors open, storyteller hopefuls put their names in The Moth Hat. A half hour later, names are picked, and one by one, storytellers take the stage for five minutes. The ten featured stories are scored by teams of judges selected from the audience. After the ten SLAMs, the winners face off in our GrandSLAM Championships. Come sign up to tell a story, or just enjoy the show!

RUBY WAX: SANE NEW WORLD

Comedian, writer, and mental health campaigner Ruby Wax shows us how our minds can jeopardize our sanity in this one-woman show inspired by her book, Sane New World. Drawing from her own struggles with depression and a masters in Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy from Oxford, Wax explains how our busy, chattering, self-critical thoughts drive us to anxiety and stress. A manual on how to survive the 21st century, Sane New World helps us understand why we sabotage our own sanity.
