Boston Teen Acting Troupe to Present AN INSPECTOR CALLS, 7/16-19
From July 16 - July 19, 2014 The Boston Teen Acting Troupe will present the Teen Premiere of AN INSPECTOR CALLS by J.B. Priestley. A gripping and thrilling examination of conscience and class, AN INSPECTOR CALLS will be directed by Catherine Spino and performed in The Boston Center for The Arts Plaza Black Box Theatre, 539 Tremont St in Boston's South End.
The Birling family are toasting the engagement of their daughter, when the happy occasion is suddenly and unexpectedly interrupted by the arrival of a stranger at the door. An Inspector has called to investigate the tragic death of a young woman. A suicide, or so it would seem... As the mysterious Inspector Goole interrogates each member of this affluent family he uncovers their connections to this tragic young woman's death. Stripping away layer upon layer of deceit he exposes the lies that infect this seemingly respectable family to reveal the deeply entrenched hypocrisy at the heart of Edwardian society.
AN INSPECTOR CALLS was first performed in 1945 in the Soviet Union and 1946 in the UK. It is one of Priestley's best known works for the stage and considered to be one of the classics of mid-20th century English theatre. The play's success and reputation has been boosted in recent years by a successful revival by English director Stephen Daldry for the National Theatre in 1992, and a tour of the UK in 2011-2012. Winner of Tony, Lawrence Olivier, and Drama Desk Awards.
The cast will include four time METG Award Winner Jack Serio (BTAT's The 39 Steps and Orphans) as Arthur Birling, Olivia Hayhurst (BTAT Debut) as Sybil Birling, Barbara Woodall (BTAT's The Dream of The Burning Boy) as Sheila Birling, Sam Vita (BTAT's The Dream of The Burning Boy) as Eric Birling, Garrett Sager (BTAT's All My Sons and The Dream of The Burning Boy) as Gerald Croft, Brendan Caulfield (BTAT's God of Carnage and Dog Sees God) as Inspector Goole and Jordan Underwood as Edna, who makes her BTAT debut.
The production team includes Molly Porter (Scenic Design), Alex Fetchko (Lighting Design), Neil Fortin (Costume, Hair and Make-Up Design), Jennifer Timms (Sound Design), Danny Bryck (Dialect Coach), and Katalina Giamarca (Dramaturge). The Production Stage Manager will be Dustin Kenyon with Max Gustafson as Assistant Stage Manager.
The Boston Teen Acting Troupe was founded in January of 2011 with the goal of bringing enriching, engaging and edgy theatre to teens, as well as providing an outlet for Boston teenagers who are serious about their craft, whether that is acting, directing or design. The Boston Teen Acting Troupe's goal is to eliminate the cliché of "bad high school theatre" by producing challenging plays not normally seen performed by young actors. Since 2011, The Boston Teen Acting Troupe has produced ten completely teen run shows in a variety of Boston and Cambridge theaters. Coverage in The New York Times and on National Public Radio have created a fan following for the fledgling theatre group.
