About Actor's Inc:

A Community Theatre Organization Reaching for the Stars

In 2005, a group of local artists, with a background in live theatre, gathered to discuss a shared vision and a common goal. These individuals had experience and/or training in theatre arts, and a vision to develop a different type of community theatre organization. The vision was that of a company that provided a forum in which to exhibit their skills and training, and would offer the Greater Lowell community high quality, live entertainment at an affordable price. Not only did these artists want to share their passion, they hoped to keep this passion alive for years to come.

Well, the next step in this process was to choose a name for the company. So, what’s in a name you ask? You would figure that with all the number of creative brain cells that were gathered in that room, we would have been able to come up with a catchy name without a problem, right? WRONG. Six whole weeks had passed before we came up with three possibilities: The Wicked Good Theater Company, Dress Circle, and A Community Theater Organization Reaching for the Stars. After much discussion, we thought it best to choose a short name. And, after much deliberation, we chose the longest name in the history of community theatre companies. But, soon after, we decided to shortened it so it would fit on a business card. Thus, ACTORS inc was born.

Now that we got the name out of the way, show ideas were flying this way and that, because everyone was “itching” to actually start working. The decision was made, and our inaugural show was decided upon. With the assistance of the Village Inn Restaurant in Dracut, ACTORS inc opened with Sandbag Stage Left (or, One Dead Dolly) by Jack Neary. It ran for six sold out performances. Somehow the director turned this straight play into a musical dinner theatre. Go figure? Godspell soon followed, and then, in quick succession, The Odd couple, the Female Version. Things were going so well, that ACTORS inc was asked to bring back BOTH Sandbag Stage Left and The Odd Couple, which we did. Then we moved on to Nunsense, L’il Abner, and we were off to the races with It’s a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play, You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown and Christmas Belles.

Over the past few years, ACTORS inc has experienced much growth and success. And, we owe this success to our dedicated actors, crew members, patrons and sponsors. They are the wind beneath our wings. Due to their efforts and passion for live theatre, ACTORS inc has finally found its "place" in the community.
