Boise Contemporary Theater's NO MORE SAD THINGS Begins Tonight

Boise Contemporary Theater's next mainstage play in its 20th Season is NO MORE SAD THINGS by Hansol Jung. Playwright Jung joined the cast and crew in Boise to fine-tune script and production elements under the direction of Julie Ritchie, out of Chicago, during rehearsals. The Boise production of NO MORE SAD THINGS is a Co-World Premiere with Sideshow Theater Company in Chicago.

NO MORE SAD THINGS tells the story of a thirty-two year-old woman from Akron, Ohio who runs away to the Land of Aloha. There on a Maui beach she meets a beautiful young cliff-diver. They share a sexy, intimate week and a powerful connection, but it's definitely complicated.

BCT Founding Artistic Director Matthew Cameron Clark first met Jung and discovered her new play at the Seven Devil's Playwrights Conference in 2014. NO MORE SAD THINGS was an audience favorite in last season's BCT 5X5 Reading Series for its fresh, sly sense of humor; original, ukulele-lilted music; and delicate, dreamlike inventiveness. It's a brave new play by a bold new voice in American theater: intelligent, thought-provoking, and unabashedly contemporary.

Clark says, "We are proud to welcome this new work by Hansol Jung, a highly gifted playwright at the beginning of what promises to be a long and celebrated career."

Jung was born in Korea, raised in South Africa, and graduated with a playwriting MFA from Yale University. She is the recipient of many awards, including the MacDowell Colony Artist Residency, International Playwrights Residency at Royal Court in London, Playwrights' Centre Core Apprenticeship, Honorable Mention from the 2014 Arch and Bruce Brown Playwriting Competition (CARDBOARD PIANO), the Paul Stephen Lim Playwriting Award (AMONG THE DEAD), the Pierre-Andre Salim Memorial Scholarship at Yale School of Drama, and the 2014 finalist for the Ruby Prize (NO MORE SAD THINGS). Jung most recently saw three of her plays- the most of any playwright-including NO MORE SAD THINGS, on the 2015 Kilroys list, a nationally juried selection of new works by female playwrights.Considered an emerging playwright to watch, BCT is thrilled to welcome this remarkable new talent to the BCT mainstage.

NO MORE SAD THINGS features Equity actors Brian Quijada, out of New York, Carie Kawa, out of Los Angeles, and Kaimana Ramos, from Hawaii, in the three roles. The crew includes New York-based scenic and lighting designer Rick Martin, BCT resident sound designer Peter John Still, costume designer Hannah Read Newbill, vocal coach Ann Price, technical director Will Ledbetter, props master Willow Socia, BCT resident stage manager Sarah Kelso, assistant stage manager Shaila Schmidt, master electrician Paul Miller, and sound technician Tim Long.

NO MORE SAD THINGS runs tonight, November 24 through December 19, 2015, with previews on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, November 24, 25 and 27 (skipping Thanksgiving night, Thursday, Nov. 26). Opening night is Saturday, November 28. All evening performances begin at 8 pm (doors at 7 pm). There are three Saturday matinees on December 5, 12 and 19 at 2 pm (doors at 1 pm). Two post-show discussions with the actors and director are scheduled for Friday, December 4 after the 8 pm show, and Saturday, December 12 after the 2 pm show.

BCT 4-Show Season Subscription Packages are available through the run of NO MORE SAD THINGS, and offer Standard, Preview, and Preview-Plus options. Four-Show Packages run between $60 and $130. Patrons can use a single ticket stub from the previous play, A SKULL IN CONNEMARA, to apply toward the purchase of a 5-Show Season Subscription; and single ticket stubs from NO MORE SAD THINGS can be applied toward 4-Show Season Subscriptions.
