Aspire Community Theatre, the newest theatrical company in town, is a place "for the next generation of characters," and is producing their second main stage production.

Based in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, ACT is excited to be offering Catch Me If You Can, based off of the 2002 hit movie of the same title.

Not veering too far off the success of their first musical, Little Shop of Horrors, a well received offering presented in October, Aspire Community Theatre is stepping out again with this latest musical production. Catch Me If You Can, penned by award winning playwright, Terrence McNally, with a score from Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman, (the same successful team who brought us the musical Hairspray), is a 180 degree turn from the company's last show. Like Little Shop, Catch Me If You Can is set in the 1960's, but this time we're in a bright, glitzy, jazz filled world, full of "glamazons", FBI agents, world travel, and the ever-charming Frank Abagnale, Jr.

Abagnale, the central character, tells his story through the lights, shine and glamour of a theatre product ion, despite the fact he's on the FBI's short list of most wanted criminals. Turns out Abagnale, in an effort to escape a broken home, leaves high school early and becomes an artful con man, churning out counterfeit checks, logging millions of miles as a pilot for Pan American Airways, posing as a pediatrician, a lawyer - all accomplished before his 21st birthday. The production, based on Abagnale's book of the same title, was nominated for a Tony award for Best Musical in 2011.

Aspire Community Theatre offers a conservatory approach to theatre education, and provides something tangible to work on for the young and young-at-heart artists in our area. In addition to main stage productions, Aspire Community Theatre will offer Master Classes, smaller scale performance opportunities, and technical experience to the theatre artist wanting to sink their teeth into interesting (and entertaining) productions; theatre produced in the same way professional companies approach their material and with the same expectation of the budding professional. Performances run February 9,10,11,12,16,17, 18 @ 7:30; October 18 @ 2:00 at the Salvation Army Kroc Community Theatre, 1675 Golf Course Road, Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. Tickets: $13-$17. Discounted group rates are available. Buy online at aspirecda.com or by calling (208) 696-4228. Rated: PG-13.
