Awkward Stage Door Moments

Last night after A Chorus Line, everyone had plastic bags with their stuff in them. Some guy saw that Heather Parcells had her shoes from the show and went "Can I touch them?!!" Didn't involve me in any way, but it was very awkward.

hahaha. I dunno if this is awkward so much as....well...ok yeah, I guess its kind of awkward. lol. But its absolutely awesome!

This was back in February.. I was waiting stage door for Xanadu during a matinee and there actually were only a few people at stage door so I was really excited! Not many people went to the matinee show and it was a Tuesday so I was really pumped. Anyways, I have the...absolute HUGEST crush on Cheyenne Jackson...what 19 year old gay boy who likes musicals doesn't. lol.

Anyways. He was really all I cared about. I was there with my best friend who knows I have this massive crush on Cheyenne. She wanted me to tell him I want to have his babies. hahahah. I busted out laughing and agreed because honestly...I'm never going to see him again probably and its just a funny thing to say.

FINALLY he comes out and I immediately go up to him and I say "Hi!" and find myself dumbfounded and speechless. He laughs and says "Hi," himself. I told him "I think you're amazingly talented, beautiful, and I have the biggest crush on you ever. I want to have your babies." I said that at the end with a laugh. :)

He looked a little taken aback but then he laughed and said "well for now, as far as I know thats not medically possible. How's about I sign your playbill instead?"

He signed it "To Santana, I hope this makes up for not giving you a baby. Cheyenne."

SWOON SWOON SWOOOON!!!! It was probably awkward for the few other people watching but it was absolutely magical for me. *siiiigh*

I don't think I'm ever going to have as satisfying a stage door experience as that. :)

reading all these brough memories back to when I stage doored Jersey Boys with my friends... 3 moments acturally (we are both 16)

the first was when Christian Hoff came out he came up to us and said (quite enthusiasticaly like he couldn't be wrong) FRONT ROW... we just laughed and said nooo last row... rear mezzanine. You could kind of see he was quite shocked and he made a little small talk after the very awkward silent we all created.

then the 2nd was when Sebastian Arcelus came out of the stage door. Since I love him as an actor I was totally in awe (and that night was the first time I got to see my friend in a while so I had given her a Wicked Program she left at my house don't worry it plays in to the story). So here's how I remember the conversation
Me: You were AMAZING... *hyperventilates* I saw you in Wicked too
Sebastian: thank you
My friend: um she kind of loves you
Sebastian: ohhh
*awkward silence*
Sebastian: *pointing to my friend with the Wicked bag very confused* Wait you saw it tonight
Me: nooo I bought her this program a few months ago because they were sold out

and the last moment has to do with Sebastian as well... my dad was picking us up and so after chatting with Sebastian and getting a picture and him signing our playbills we had to say bye so my friend goes
My friend: byee by the way you have really nice teeth
Sebastian: *awkwardly thanks*
Me: *while walking back to the car with my friend* and a really nice smille bye
he said thanks and bye but he was just standing there very confused I guess it wasn't that awkward but my friend and I couldn't stop laughing

but alas. instead it was the male equivalent of....Giselle Bundchen with the pipes of Sutton Foster? lol. I dunno...a fond memory, nonetheless.

And those Sebastian stories are priceless. lol.

I met Patti LuPone the other night and told her that she was an inspiration and that I want to be in showbusiness. She replied saying that it ain't pretty. I was so shocked. I complimented her and she didn't even say, "Thank you." I guess she didn't know what to say to me either after seeing my face in shock. It was an awkward moment for both of us.

I cried after that.

A few years ago, I was getting autographs at the revival of The Best Man. I was doing pretty good when this woman wearing a baseball cap and a sweatshirt stopped, looked at me and moved on. I thought it was odd. I got everyone's autograph except Elizabeth Ashley's. I asked the stage door manager if she was coming out and he said, "She already did. She was the woman in the baseball cap!" I felt like such an idiot. (He later said that if he had tipped me off, he would have lost his job)

The only other really awkward time was outside of Fosse, waiting for Ben Vereen. What they did was take whatever you wanted signed inside and he signed it in his dressing room. Then his assistant brought them out for the fans. A few of us stayed anyway and when he finally came out, I asked if I could take a photo and he very graciously agreed. Unfortunately, I accidentally snapped a photo getting my camera out which promptly flashed right in his face. He just said, "Watch that camera, Larry." But he still took a picture with me even though I wanted to fall through the side walk.

After seeing the national tour of Jersey Boys in Seattle I went back to the stage door and my dad and I were the only fans there. It was cool to get a bit of a private conversation Christopher Kale Jones. Anyways he had come out with a stack of Rubiks cubes in his hand and he ended up dropping them when he went to sign my playbill. I felt bad for that happening but he didn't seem upset at all.

My second time seeing [title of show] (I went thrice before having to leave the city) I was at stagedoor (obviously) and I was talking to my friend. So when Hunter came over to me he like randomly gave me a hug, but he did that the other time I was there so I kind of went with it. I talked to everyone else and it was normal, then Susan came out. She came over to me (I was at the end) and said "I know you! How have you been?" And then she kind of opened her arms for me to give her a hug. For a brief really awkward moment, I didn't understand what was going on, then I realized it and I was like OH, HUG. Awkward.

Then, there was also telling Priscilla Lopez "my grandma is going to be so jealous!" When I was talking to her after In The Heights (she was such a star, though. And we had been talking about A Chorus Line...which is also really awkward but I guess it made it make sense?).

My friend dared me to say to Janine DiVita "I hear you can belt an A!" at Grease, but I'm SO glad I didn't do that. That would be creepy and awkward to the extreme.

Also, at A Chorus Line, my understudy slips dropped out of my playbill and E. Clayton Cornelious asked if I wanted them and I was like "Oh, I don't care..." and he preceded to bend down and get them. I felt really bad.

I have another one from last night, but this one was kind of cute. Mike Cannon (Al), tried to sign my playbill with the cover still on the marker.

Me: Haha, sorry.
Mike: Oh, you were just trying to trick me.
Me: ... Yep, that was it.

more funny than awkward - Christian Anderson nearly fell on me and my friend during the bows of Avenue Q when we were in the front row- Howie had to pull him back while trying not to crack up telling him not to fall off. At the stage door, we were talking to both of them and we were like " we didn't know when we won the lotto we'd have a risk of actors falling on us. " Howie laughed and Christian was like " Come on guys, it was obvious that Jenn tried to push me. " it was really funny - he was pretty flustered.

my friend asked me to go to the stage door with her at Spring Awakening after the show.. and there was a guy standing next to us doing a Liza Minelli impression to the actors.. and they all look creeped out.. lol. I don't know the other guy's name cuz he's one of the new ones, but he was laughing his as* off. And then Gerard was just standing there, looking at the guy trying not to laugh like he was thinking "wtf?". I felt really embarassed for the guy. And then after the actors moved on in the line, the Liza Minelli guy turns to his friend and asked "too much?".. and then the friend was like "yeah, way too much"

Oh man...I have two good ones.

1) At the stage door for Sweeney Todd, my friend and I met Patti Lupone. When we had a chance to speak to her my friend said (meaning it in the nicest way) "You are a DIVAH!!!" Patti just kind of blinked and said "Thank you.........?" lol...

2) Meeting Bernadette Peters after her concert in FL...It had rained and the ground was wet so she was staying on the sidewalk, not incredibly close to the fence where people were standing. So one of my friends who is obsessed with her...THREW her coat on the wet, muddy GROUND so Bernie could step on it! Bernadette just looked at her and said "I'm not stepping on that!"

Oh I just remembered another one! After seeing Young Frankenstein, I wanted to get Shuler Hensley's autograph but wasn't sure what he looked like without his makeup. This tall guy came out the stage door and was looking around like he was expecting to sign autographs, so I asked him to sign my Playbill and he was happy. But then Shuler came out a few minutes later and I was like WHO THE HELL WAS THAT OTHER GUY?!?! lol...(pretty sure he was an ensemble dancer...but we joked the rest of the night about him impersonating people so he could sign autographs)

Oh wait! I have one more! (sorry...these are just coming back to me)...This is not at the stage door, but just down the street...I was watching a movie at a friend's apartment. When my friends and I were leaving, this guy passing us in the hallway shouts to us, "Heyyy, partyyyy!!!" That guy was Matthew Morrison. So strange.

Oh and here's one more: At [title of show] this girl asked Susan to sign her boobs (I guess they thought she was just that ZANY in real life). Susan just kind of looked at her and said "Um...no."

It was one of my first times to stage door in the city and I had just seen Rent for the first time. Well I was waiting with all the tons of Rentheads to get all the signatures. Well Antonique Smith came out and I got her autograph but it took a while. During the whole process, there was some kid that was just standing around her the whole time and would say random things and then she would continue to sign autographs and then he would just keep standing around her and say random things to her. She was super nice to him but it really creeped me out and I wasn't even the person that he was doing it too.
