The 90-minute pop show opened on Broadway following previews from April 22. The shuttering was one of the fastest in recent memory.
The show received kind but dismissive reviews that largely sought to protect and encourage its 24-year-old-old librettist James Gardiner and 24-year-old songwriter Nick Blaemire. Most critics took the producers and director Eric Schaeffer to task for shepherding a show that was wet behind the ears
Wow, it lasted for exactly one performance. That's worse than Carrie! I really sorta feel sorry for the writers. This thing really should have gone to Off-Broadway instead.
"You drank a charm to kill John Proctor's wife! You drank a charm to kill Goody Proctor!" - Betty Parris to Abigail Williams in Arthur Miller's The Crucible
I really wish I could have seen this. I am most curious about the score - why have these young writers gotten so much support that lead them to a Broadway opening?
"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

At least Andrew Call can go back to his OTHER job:
(from Playbill) Andrew C. Call ... made his Broadway bow, however briefly, in High Fidelity and is technically on a three-month leave of absence from Cry-Baby where he stands by for title player James Snyder.
Laughter is much more important than applause. Applause is almost a duty. Laughter is a reward.

My apologies to all for the previous "linkless" thread. I accept full responsibility for the closing of the thread on closing.
Since this thread won't close, I do want to say again how very sorry I am for the writers, and how really angry I am about the people who should have been giving them good guidance, but instead were really responsible for creating this fiasco. I put the blame squarely on Eric Schaeffer.
To the writers, you definitely showed promise. You have my heartfelt sympathy.
Dottie, I could have SWORN the matinee was on TDF when I checked earlier today. It was the only date listed and was double-asterisked, meaning there were few or no tickets available, which should have been a big red siren right then. Or perhaps it was tonight's performance that was on there.
If they close opening night the insurance money will kick in. If they run longer, they could lose everything. I was a good choice on the Producer's part...

So the matinee was canceled this afternoon? Or did it play?
