I'm working at a summer theatre camp starting at the end of June and the director wants me to perform in the show. He's allowing me to choose my own number, but he said he wants me to use my belt voice. Does anyone have any suggestions for some great belt songs I could sing in the show?

How old are you and how high can you belt?
All I can tell you is that you SHOULD NOT SING ANYTHING FROM WICKED.

Yeah, no Wicked. Change from A New Brain is one of my personal favorites. If you want something older, I don't know if it actually qualifies as a "belt song" since the range is so low, but I love As Long As He Needs Me from Oliver.

I would classify "As Long As He Needs Me" as belt. At the end it gets up to the C/D range, so it's not SUPER high.

What kind of song are you looking for? Ballad? Comic? Or do you not care?

Thoroughly Modern Millie has some could belting songs for females ("Gimme, Gimme" or "Not For the Life Of Me" or "Forget About the Boy.")

Also, "Astonishing" from Little Women.

As you can see, I'm sticking with Sutton Foster material! Love her belt.

thanks everyone! I realize i was a bit vague, oops. So to answer some of your questions... I'm 15, I have a pretty high belt range for someone my age. I wasn't planning on singing anything from Wicked... it would to too hard for me =) I'm looking for any kind of belt song really. Comic or Ballad, or something else. Anything will do. Thanks so much for all your reccomendations!

"Come To Your Senses" - Tick, Tick...BOOM

It goes up to a C#, I think, so you should be able to hit it even if you don't feel 100%.

definatley a character song or a power ballad.

character songs always please the audience, and there are many belty songs.

i would suggest:
- Adelaides Lament
- Shy
- Always A Bridesmaid
- Astonishing
- Show Off
- Dance;ten Looks; three

Those are pretty good.
Message me if you need help, kay?

"Adelaide's Lament" is extremely overdone. Especially among teenagers.

Christ, the character has been engaged for 14 years!

I LOVE Say the Word! I sang it for an audition a few months ago and got a really good response.

Also, consider On My Way from Violet.

"On My Way" is really a group song...I think it would be kind of hard to make it work solo.

Yeah it is hard, unless you're like Sutton and have people to rearrange the piece to make it a solo for you. haha

jaso_n, if you're thinking about Three Bedroom House, that's a duet. Kickass song, though.

Haha it's funny (and sorta ironic!). I was Belle in BATB where I sang A Change in Me as well as Joanne in Godspell where I sang Bless the Lord. Both great songs, thanks for suggesting 'em (even though I can't perform them again lol) but I will defniitely look into your other suggestions!
